Photographer's Note

As Christmas is coming, I'm posting another photo of the Nativity scene of Monsaraz (another one to add to my theme). This one has been taken in 2007, because it hasn't started yet this year. This Nativity scene has around 40 real size characters placed all through the village and it was created by the sculptor Teresa Martins. You can find them in the most amazing places - there are beggers sitting on the stairs of the church, a woman taking water from the well, women and children in the streets... These three characters are coming out of the Church of Nossa Senhora da Lagoa, situated in the main square of the village.

Bem-vinda com as lembranças da natividade.
Ótimo também ter escolhido o preto e branco.
Apesar dos rostos estarem sem os aspectos naturais dos olhos e boca, conseguem transmitir todo o sentimento que envolve essa época.

Hi Ana, they look very real and B&W works quite well in this photo. Unfortunately I went there last spring, the nativity time was over, so didn't see those characters which are quite photogenic.

It is so good to see your travel pics. And now back to Portugal is good to see your gallery of the mix. This is nice one to show the Xmas characters. I wonder if the color version can be more interesting but you make the B&W with nice contrast which makes me want to see the faces :)

Hello Ana, I think I recall seeing these type of figures earlier in you gallery, very appropriate for this time of year. I love the nativity scenes, we see very little of them in Australia. BW works very well here, excellent tones & detail. I think with all these real size characters spread all over town it would be an interesting scene, an amazing atmosphere. Well done, thank you

Recordo-me da tua série de fotografias precedentes muito interessantes sobre este lugar surpreendente. O preto e branco renova o aspeto destes personagens, mais austeros e mais artísticos. A realização é perfeita. É uma nova beleza e bom trabalho. Bravo.

esta foto foi deixada para trás , mas é, na minha opinião, uma das mais belas desta série de natal. gosto em especial do preto e branco, da luz magnífica e dos detalhes atrás que fazem um bom pano de fundo. parabéns

Que boa idéia, espalhar os personagens do presépio pela cidade, integrando o nascimento de Jesus aos tempos atuais. Ótima captura em preto e branco, muito boa luz e contrastes.
