Photographer's Note

Seems that the sculptures of the Nativity scene, in Monsaraz, are a little different this year - some changes have been made by the sculptor. I hope to see it in a couple of days but meanwhile I'm posting an old one I took in 2007 .

The Nativity scene of Monsaraz attracts many visitors every year. It has 43 real size characters, created by the sculptor Teresa Martins, which are placed all through the village, creating a very unique atmosphere. I found this one sitting on a bench, near the wall of the castle.

Eu sabia! Que a Nossa Senhora e o Menino eram alentejanos. Está um excelente P&B. Monsaraz é uma vila com muito encanto.

Hi Ana,
There is a nice blend of textures greatly enhanced by the good sharpness and I can also see good tonal control especially in the shadow areas. You have chosen the right time of the day so that the light and shadows can really bring out the forms beautifully. I also appreciate the effort and idea of the sculptor.

Belle et étrange vierge à l'enfant (chien) ! j'aime la posture générale et la tête qui semble interrogative !
Le choix du noir et blanc est parfait pour augmenter le contraste.

Olá Ana. Esta será a melhor ou pelo menos uma das melhores cenas do Natal em Monsaraz; talvez por ser das mais simples, talvez pela excepcional definição e sharpness dos detalhes. P&B foi sem dúvida a melhor opção. Grande trabalho.

Hello Ana,

I believe that sometimes colors distract the mind from the main message of a photo. As a B&W photos lover, I really like the black and white tones of this shot. Well done!
