Photographer's Note
They have a huge cathedrahl in Porto. Going down to the city from here, you pass some very narrow streets. And as I walked I came to pass a little door with this shop within.
The whole shop was no more than 10 square meter and held some basic food and drinks assortment. The shopkeeper was this old lady - a cat lover I guess, as two cats operated freely on the desk. The customer at right had just got himself a bottle of wine.
Standing in the door, leaning to the wall to support the camera, I had my photo of this very tiny little 'market'.
Hope you like it too!

Yes, I like it too much. I like those small shops all over the world. This one is very funny with cats, especially 4.478 kg one.
It goes to my theme Grocers and their old fashioned small stores

Fantastic daily life shot you made!
I love this kind of little places in the cities all over the world. And this one is really a particular one.. I guess if the real owners are the nice cats?
Very good crop and composition.

From what I see on the scale, the cat appears to be moderately overweight ;-) Fun scene from the old shop, and very nice to see that there are still places where these old businesses have survived in the age of mega shopping malls. Glad you didn't use the flash, the atmosphere with the interior lighting is wonderfully rendered that way. Well captured, Jack.

Bonjour Jack,
J'ai eu peur en regardant la photographie que cette petite boutique soit spécialisée dans la vente des chats au poids ! ;-))
TE est là également pour nous montrer la vie de tous les jours.
Mini market ! C'est tout à fait vrai.
Bien vu et très original.

Hi Jack
You were lucky the light colored back wall reflected a lot of available light. The scales show the price of the cat as free! A good daily life shot.

So here’s the old woman… Very funny (although not that hygienic) the cat on top of the scale. :-)
A typical image of the traditional groceries in Portugal.

Hi Jack, what a lovely daily life picture of these people, it is indeed not an average supermarket, but surely an agreeale one, with a personal touch as well. AND sone nice cats. But not only that she has her shop, it's her kitchen as well, as I see a stove in the corner.
nice shot, Jack.

Hello Jack
nice shot very "daily life" ! By our country, south of Paris, you can find such little grocery in little villages. But they are the last "mohicans" because they can't respect europeans normes or rules and will close one by one after the last shopkeeper...
best wishes for 2010
Pierrot
