Pilgrimage on Horseback...II, a photo from Evora, South

Photographer's Note

This is one of the biggest pilgrimages in the south of Portugal, the Pilgrimage on Horseback.rnThe pilgrims leave from the church of Nossa Senhora da Boa Viagem, in Moita, and they travel around 150 kms on horseback or on carts, till they reach the Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora d'Aires, in Viana do Alentejo. It's an old tradition, because in the old days, the farmers used to do it to pray for their cattle and their crops. The journey takes several days and they are too many.

Here, the pigrims had just arrived to the village of São Cristóvão, when they were on their way to Viana do Alentejo. It was the time to stop in front of the church for a pray and the blessing.

150 kilometers on a horseback or on horse carts is a huge undertaking.
Excellent presentation of the blessing at the start of this piligrimage.

Your excellent note combined with the well composed photo, gives a very good idea of this pilgrimage and its place in the life of people in this region. Hi Ana
Superb work, close to main interests but the carriage is especially intriguing grabbing the eye first. A contemplative when the setting and ambient create a religious mood of a profound strong look showing the immense devotion in a state of calmness. You have obviously caught small event in a right moment, full marks for exposure, colours and contrast. Lovely shot, Congrats.

linda foto com a imagem de Maria e os detalhes do carro adornado, os personagens estão bem colocados, mas me parece que depois desta geração a tradição irá se acabar.
