A beautiful feast!, a photo from Leiria, North

Photographer's Note

I'll be back to my posts of the mountain, but today I'm posting a photo of a very unique feast in Portugal. It dates from the 16th century and it's devoted to Our Lady of the Cage, the patron saint of Cortes, a very small town in the centre of Portugal. According to the legend, a long time ago, some shepherds found the image of our Lady in the surroundings and they built a litte shelter for her, which, according to the legend, looked much like a cage. Today, Our lady has a very beautiful church and every year there is a feast that lasts for several days. One of the highlights is the procession where many women carry little Jesus at the top of their heads, other carry trays. It's not one of the biggest precessions I've seen so far, far from that, but it's surely one of the most beautiful ones. Here are some of the litte Jesus on a huge table before the procession.

It is interesting that images of Jesus are different in different countries, facial features, hair, eyes and accessories are different in different countries. For example, in Poland, the little Jesus has blonde hairs,

Hello Ana,
this image is absolutely mesmerizing, the light, the colours and the glances of the statues create an atmosphere that is solemn and warm at the same time. I like the rich and intriguing effect of the partial focus, the sense of movement and the idea that there are people carrying the statues, having placed wishes and thanks on them. The way you lit the scene, the play of shadows and the colours are superb. Congratulations and thank you!

Hello Ana,
This view is different because it focuses on these lovely dolls, and not the actual people. I like the focus and depth of field. The dolls seem to be looking at the camera, and the lighting is also very nice.

Bonjour Ana,

Elles sont belles ces processions. Très religieuses par définition elles changent avec le temps. Sauf que la figure du petit Jésus manque d'originalité.Beau comme des poupées de cire.

Hi Ana,
very interesting tradition. Great idea to capture so many Jesuses in a row. Jesus statue makes a lovely repeated motif here, and so unusual. Great play with the depth of the field as well.
I feel like we don't show enough of Christian traditions here with all the colorful clothes which are sometimes used in many rituals.

O foco nas imagens centrais, deixando as periféricas parcialmente desfocadas ficou perfeito! O resultado é muito bonito. Além disso, o enquadramento, a nitidez, a luz e as cores são muito bons.
