Photographer's Note

Here are the little Jesus before the procession. This feast dates from the 16th century and it's devoted to Our Lady of the Cage, the patron saint of Cortes, a very small town in the centre of Portugal. According to the legend, a long time ago, some shepherds found the image of our Lady in the surroundings and they built a litte shelter for her, which, according to the legend, looked much like a cage. Today, Our lady has a very beautiful church and every year there is a feast that lasts for several days. One of the highlights is the procession where many women carry little Jesus at the top of their heads, other carry trays. It's not one of the biggest precessions I've seen so far, far from that, but it's surely one of the most beautiful ones.
