Time for Transhumance - XIV, a photo from Guarda, North

Photographer's Note

Once again, I joined the shepherds and followed the route of transhumance, leading around 1000 sheep and goats (just in this group here) from Seia to Serra da Estrela, the highest mountain in Portugal, where they are going to spend the summer, because it's not so hot and they have better pastures. I 've already forgotten about the heat and the dust, it was an amazing experience to be among so many animals and to have the chance to talk with the shephers and listen to their stories.

Interesting view about transhumance, well farmed with animals in the FG, well composed with the lines with men, good management even the weather was foggy, tfs.

Indeed, this is an unusual scene these days, when a large herd of sheep crossing narrow street in any town.
Placed well to take this photo, with fog or dust up on the air, added a bit of mystery to the whole.

*** I enjoyed seeing Portugal in the final, the tension and excitement prevailed through the 120 minutes. Bravo. Ronaldo is most admired here in Israel.

Hello Ana,
We have seen the animals before, but this environment makes it a very special photo. The shepherds lined up between the herd and the houses, almost covered by the fog, create a peculiar atmosphere.

Another fascinating image. I like the line of shepherds breaking the scene up and the mist. The image is clear and sharp and is an interesting shot form this route.

It's a nice moment and atmospheric too seeing section of the town road was blocked by the flock accompanied by shepherds but the mist makes this real special for me. It was a nice opportunity to take some shots as displayed here. Amazing how this traditional practice actually has shaped much of the landscape along the way. A classic image and great information, Congrats

Transhumance through a town! I may be wrong, but that seems quite unusual to me. Dark, brooding, misty, atmospheric. I like it!

this one is a little bit different from the others.
now we see the animals in the city/town, not out in the fields.

everytime I see these shots I like it, I try to imagine the animals walking along the streets of Vancouver :)
nice to see the people leading the pack up front, they're mid point in the photo between the buildings and the lower fg. looks great.

fico pensando até quando este evento acontecerá. pastores eram tão frequentes no passado, hoje são raridade.
linda vista do grupo passando por uma rua da cidade, a atmosfera enevoada adiciona encanto. lindo trabalho.
