Time for Transhumance - XIX, a photo from Guarda, North

Photographer's Note

Once again, I joined the shepherds and followed the route of transhumance, leading around 1000 sheep and goats from Seia to Serra da Estrela, the highest mountain in Portugal, where they are going to spend the summer, because it's not so hot and they have better pastures. I 've already forgotten about the heat and the dust, it was an amazing experience to be among so many animals and to have the chance to talk with the shephers and listen to their stories.

Good use of a shallow dof with perfect sharpness on the goat. Excellent colour and saturation. The colorful pom poms add a vibrant splash of warm colors. Tfs!

J'aime énormément toutes les photos de cette série sur la transhumance.Un moment magnifique dans cette région surtout lorsque les bergers colorent ainsi les cornes des chèvres. Très beau cadrage.

This should be an interesting series.... other cultures, way fo life, through history and hurrah for this well adorned and proud looking goat....

Great close up work and a fascinating insight, I like how she is looking straight into your lens as if he can't bear to see what is going on with lovely colours and attention to detail. Oof background gives more emphasis on the subject matter really well. Remarkable capture that you have given us a lovely portrait!!

beautifully decorated goat, and a nice close-up picture.
Its "face-expression" looking almost as suspicious of you taking the photo.
I reckon it has a big bell on the neck, probably wonderful "music" sound while the herd keep moving.

Hello Ana,

A great photograph showing one of the subjects for these shepherds!

The shot is pin sharp, using shallow dof to great effect.
I just love the expression on the goat's face! Have you ever seen such a scornful look!
Lovely composition uses the colorful decorations to lead from left to right across the frame and ensure that the pin-sharp textures are recognised.

Looking at the face of the sheep it looks like (s)he doesn’t like the colourful attributes on her/his head. But the result on your picture is marvellous and very attractive.
Perfect use of DOF with a great sharpness in the right parts of the picture.
