Time for Transhumance - XXIII, a photo from Guarda, North

Photographer's Note

Once again, I joined the shepherds and followed the route of transhumance, leading around 1000 sheep and goats from Seia to Serra da Estrela, the highest mountain in Portugal, where they are going to spend the summer, because it's not so hot and they have better pastures. I 've already forgotten about the heat and the dust, it was an amazing experience to be among so many animals and to have the chance to talk with the shephers and listen to their stories.

Hello Ana,

I suspect that you gathered some very interesting stories from these shepherds, stories that may never have been recorded.

This is a fine, candid shot.
The shepherd appears deep in thought as he is making his journey beside a colourful goat, partly concealed by the wild oats.
This is a good example of shallow dof, keeping the focal subject sharp against a useful, blurred b/g.

Bonjour Ana,

Très belle plongée vers cet homme qui semble très songeur en période de transhumance. Ces éléments colorés apportent quelque chose de très spécial à la scène. Bon choix de profondeur de champs.

Good use of differential focus and a shallow dof to emphasise the main subject in the mid distance. The fg grain stalks add depth & layering. Tfs!
