Photographer's Note

Cismigiu Park dates back to 1860 and covers and area of 17 ha. Designed initially by the landscape architect Carl Friedrich Wilhelm Meyer (who also designed Kiseleff Park), work on the gardens was completed by the botanist U. Hoffman and the landscape designer F. Rebhuhn.

Work on the site began in 1845. The alleys took shape on the site of a grove, and the lake -- with a network of channels allowing for emptying and cleaning the basin -- grew out of a pond fed by a number of springs. Over 30,000 trees were planted: maples,
lime trees, fir trees, elms, plane trees, chestnut trees, etc.
