The train arrives into the train station, just behind me, as the evening sets in. The atmosphere is tranquil and the air is crisp and chilly during the late autumn evening. The train always comes and goes. It brings the commuting workers in the morning and takes them back home in the evening. This has been every weekday routine for generations. As I mentioned before, the first train arrived in Cugir in 1908. The railway branches off the main southern Transylvanian railway corridor, at the village of Sibot, between the railway hubs of Alba Iulia (Karlsburg / Gyulaféhérvár) and Simeria (Piski), passing through the village of Vinerea, ending in Cugir. All trains come from northeast, either from Teius (Dreikirchen / Tövis) a small town but major railway hub, or from further north, Cluj Napoca (Klausenburg / Kolosvár), the capital city of Transylvania. There used to be a daily train to Sibiu (Hermannstadt / Nagy Szeben ) as well, which was canceled, since less trains service this route, due to lack of passengers. The train in the picture is sort of a town symbol, the 'Teius - Cugir' or "Cugireana" as locals refer to it. It has brought generations after generations of commuters. It used to have 4 sets of 4 cars each and a mail car. These days, as you can see, only a set of 4 cars is needed. And also, of the very little number of commuters that still make the everyday journey, some have switched to the newer shuttle bus services.
