Photographer's Note

This is one of the most important historical characteristics of Kikinda. It is a dry mill plant in the equine. 1781. in Velika Kikinda, there were 17 dry mill, 1800. was 32, and 1848. even 51 dry mill, two of which are to be double circle. At that time in our city there are two windmills. The existing dry mill in Kikinda was built in 1899.
Mill in the equine operation was known at the time of Old Rome. Dry mill consist of a wheel similar wheel rural coach, for whose work we need horses. Horses are the turns in the circle and rotate great wooden shaft. Harness with five pairs of horses dry mill could mill 100 kg of wheat per hour. In Kikinda now there is only one, of the former 51, who was the middle of the XIX century and it is one of two saved in Europe, and second is in Sarvašu in Hungary. In the North Banat them was even 252, because the Pannonian river slow and as such are not suitable for building the mill. At the end of XIX early XX dry mills slowly disappear, because they are not able to withstand economic competition with even mills.
