Photographer's Note

Interior of Avila Cathedral.
Unusually, it is integral part of the fortification walls around the city, with defensive structures on its roof, too.
It was begun in 1095, in Romanesque style, then continued in Gothic style - so from the Western entrance one can see how Gothic emerges.
The huge stone beams re-inforcing the walls and columns give a stunning spacious feel to this cathedral, and the play of many different colours of light turn it into something magical.
