Here is a closer view of the main portal of Avila Cathedral in Spain. There is another gateway with equally impressive carvings to the side of the cathedral that is no longer used.

The Cathedral of Ávila is a Catholic church in Ávila in the south of Old Castile, Spain. It is in the Romanesque and Gothic architectural traditions.

It was planned as a cathedral-fortress, its apse being one of the turrets of the city walls. It is surrounded by a number of houses or palaces, the most important being: the Palace of the Evening, the Palace of the Infant King, and the Palace of Valderrábanos, which were responsible for the defence of the Puerta de los Leales (The Gate of the Loyal Ones) also known as La Puerta del Peso de la Harina (The Flour Road Gate).

Unfortunately I did not have enough time to visit the inside of the cathedral.

This is what I was trying to look at in your large version yesterday. Great detail, especially in the large version again. I'm always amazed at the work that went into these old cathedrals.

The effort used to make this a memorable entrance is remarkable!
Your photograph, besides being nicely symmetrical, captures the intricate details of the repeating layers of carving with wonderful clarity.

$quelle entrée et détail quelle finesse de ces sculpture de façade et la prote tout en bois sombre quel alignement de ces saints et ce rendu sur la pierre du gris en fond du beige au sommet deux couleur et quelle belle entrée vraiment on a envie d'y pénétrer.
