Plaza de la Catedral, a photo from Avila, Castilla y Leon

Photographer's Note

Plaza de la Catedral is a square in the fortified Spanish city of Avila. Named for the cathedral (out of frame to the left here) it also houses a number of other interesting old buildings as well as this row of stone lions that presumably act as guardians.

The building with the tower is the Palace of Los Velada. Its construction reflects various styles and dates from the end of the 15th to the beginning of the 16th centuries. The graceful tower built on top of the Palace is decorated with coats of arms on the corners. It also shows evidence of the fact that it once had battlements.

Inside, it has a porticoed central courtyard with three levels, but only the north wing has been conserved; the lower two galleries have reduced arches on Tuscan columns and the upper gallery has lintels. It has since been turned into a hotel.

Bonne présentation de ces bâtiments et intéressant rendu d'image, HDR probablement. Bon effet de teintes et de luminosité avec ces tons chauds pour les murs et ce ciel gris mais lumineux.

Good perspective and sharpness, & well composed with the diagonal roof eaves coming in from the top right corner. Nice repetition of the lions. Is 'Leon' Spanish for lion, by any chance? Tfs!

I really like the soft light, which brings out the warm hue of the building so well, especially in front of the grey clouds. You chose a very good angle and the clarity and sharpness are very good.

I thought i was viewing a shot from Silvio's gallery at first.
this is now a hotel? wow, i would never have thought that.
I wonder how much it costs. wonderful atmosphere in the clouds, and i like the HDR type of feeling the shot has.
