Sanabria Lake, a photo from Zamora, Castilla y Leon

I don't expect to impress much with this scan, with all of its technical flaws, but I didn't resist posting one of the only scans of the film that isn't completely ruined. I wonder why the place where it was shot, a much scenic one, is so little represented in TE.

The lake is the largest natural one in Iberian Peninsula. It lies 1000 meters high, in the mountains (some of which surpass 2000 meters) near Puebla de Sanabria, only some Km away from the Northwest tip of the Portuguese frontier. It is the centre of a Natural Park with its name.

This photo has nice quality for a scan. The lighting and colors are great with nice sharpness and detail. Your composition is very good including the rocky shore in the foreground and the mountains in the BG.

Hello Jose -

I still don't see the problem with your scans as this one looks OK to me. The only comment I "would" have is that the snow covered mtn. in the BG is a bit soft but that could be due to a shallow DOF. I am glad you included the rock and shrubs in the FG as they help make this image work compositionally. The image looks to have a slight right hand rotation as the shoreline does not look level. Otherwise, a well presented and executed image.

Not sure I can see flawa in this scan Jose. The picture seem very nice. The colours and the details are excellent. The high mountain with the glacier give the image a nice background point of focus. A beautiful place presented with great clarity. Thanks Jose.

I love the blues, I love the long lake with the distant mountain. I love the angled light. I wish it was tilted counter clockwise. At least at this size the scan quality looks wonderful.

Olá José,
even not knowing the film itself I would say that you reached a more than acceptable quality with the the good textures on the rocks in foreground and the soft surface of the water. It is for sure a nice view, I think a bit more of the rules of third for the sky would increase the impact. The view over the rocks and the lake coming from the right works good.

What a beautiful scanned slide, as fresh as any modern digital image. The colors and definition are extraordinary. The scene is evocative of Lake Powell in Nevada.

Buena foto para ser escaneada, estupendo color.
No hace mucho yo estuve cerca de ahí, en Puebla de Sanabria, pero no fuí hasta el lago, y tengo ganas de volver, ya que hace años que estuve ahí. Será que no hay gente de la zona y los que andamos por TE no tenemos fotos del lugar.

Olha que até estou impressionado, José! O resultado do scan está fabuloso. Azuis lindos e um 1º plano excelente, com boas texturas e luminosidade, onde são muito agradáveis os contrastes dourados com os azuis escuros do lago. O lugar é espectacular e sente-se uma calma imensa...gosto muito da vista da montanha nevada lá ao fundo. Como estou no portátil, as dimensões reduzidas até não me chateiam nada. Gosto muito.

I don't see any flaws with the scan; just a slight tilt you can't blame the scan for. I like the saturated colours and the grading of the blue towards the horizon both in the sky and more importantly in the lake. Nice one

in the blue! the POV is excellent with the centrally placed snow-capped mountain very well complements the compo. serene and smogless view- a healthy place to be in!

Queres então dizer que é um lago natural. Primeiro pensei que fosse uma albufeira num dos rios que veem para Portugal! Para uma foto de 99 e passada pelo scaner, acho que está mesmo muito boa. Valeu a pena o trabalho. Muito bem.

Jose, before I looked into the technical data and your note I had the impression that this has to be an old shot and I was right. However, besides the low scanning quality you could at least have corrected the tilt to the right.
Anyway, the colors are really an asset and the composition is despite the simplicity a beauty. Love how you managed to have the snowcapped mountain showing up between the two hills, well balanced with the nice elements in the foreground.

Dear Jose,
I can imagine the way you shot it:

You stood on the bolder with several momentary gazes to the right to be sure of your safe position on the rock because the lake water is just 40 feet below very near. Then you surveyed
the the lake along with its perspectives. Both your hands rested on your west on either side.

Then you knelt down for a while and used your cam view finder.

Then you sat on the rock stretching your legs and started clicking.

Bravo. Well done.

looks a bit tilted but still a good shot jose... the snowy peak on the background adds a lot to the compo and the blue lakes is quite attractive... the place could have looked more greener and coll in spring though :)...

C'est une tres tres belle image José. J'adore ce point de vue sur le lac presque rasant. Le rendu du bleu est superbe jusqu'aux reflets des montagnes enneigees au fond. Beaucoup de vaiete dans ce bleu qui conrate si bien avec la lumeire attrapee sur les rochers devant.

Hola Jose, si señor una gran imagen de la laguna, he estado allí algunas veces, es un espacio natural sin comparación,
has sabido interpretar esta fotografia, arrancando la imagen desde la roca y dando esa profundidad posterior con la sierra nevada, un gran acierto la epoca del año escogida.
te voy a poner un pega, ¿por qué no has ajustado más la imagen al tamaño permitido?

Well I actually don't think this is a bad scan at all! In fact, it's better than many non-scanned photos here, so you're doing ok I would say! Lovely, clear atmosphere and great lighting and bold colours make for a very nice image. Great work.

Excelente foto do lago, como bem se vê. O primeiro plano em tons dourados faz um belo contraste com os azuis.
Também tenho umas duas ou três deste lago, mas acho que são todas com as minhas criancinhas (e também não são digitais).
Tenho andado também a pensar em publicar aqui fotos de locais que ainda não estejam representados no TE (algumas minhas já foram as primeiras), mesmo que a qualidade não seja a melhor, mas se alguém andar à procura de imagens do local pelo menos encontra algo.

It's good to see shots from places like this that are under-represented on TE, José. You have composed this well with good DOF. I note a few have commented on the apparent tilt, but it's actually very hard to determine whether this is really tilted or not - or whether it is just an optical illusion caused by the asymmetrical slope of the mountains. Beautiful shot Jose.
THe blue of the water is absolutely gorgeous, and it appears to lead my eye directly to the snow capped mountain in the distance. I only wish the mountain was a little sharper, but it is so far away.
The rocks in the foreground add interest as well.
