Trujillo - Birthplace of conquistadores

Trujillo is a very beautiful and charming small town in Extremadura, Spain.

The most famous person of this place is Francisco Pizarro, an explorer and conquistador.
The success of Hernán Cortés, another conquistador in Mexico and tales of great wealth in South America made him decide to explore new areas. By cunning and military superiority he managed to conquer Peru from the Inca Empire.

In the old town of Trujillo you can find a large number of medieval and renaissance buildings. The conquistadores born in this town (there were also Francisco de Orellana and Hernando de Alarcón) provided the money to build or to enrich many of them.

In Trujillo Pizarro is still a hero and an equestrian statue of him looks over the Plaza Mayor.
