Scratches, a photo from Graubunden, East

Back to summer again...

Here you can see the work of a glacier. My photo was taken on top of San Bernardino Pass in the Swiss canton Grisons (Graubünden). One clearly can see the flow direction of the ice here. Harder stones, carried under the flowing ice engraved these scratches in the bed-rock. It's a proof that even this 2.065 m high alpine pass was overflown by a glacier in the last Ice Age.

Hi Frank,

Interesting how ice can often break even the hardest rock. The effect of retreating glaciers is well seen in this place. The striations on the rock give account of the forces of nature at work. Nice point of view. Thanks Frank :-)

Zurueck in die Schwyz !
Diese Felsenstrukturen sind immer toll, beeindruckend wenn man denkt, wieviele millionen Jahre es noetig waren, sie zu bilden.
Aber man laeuft einfach und ohne daran zu denken schlicht drueber hinweg.
Tolle bildliche Aufbau und gutes Standpunkt. Schoen die "blauen" im Hintergrund und wie immer gute nuetzliche Info's.

Hallo Frank,

schöne Aussicht was das Eis mit den Steinen anfangen kann. Mann könnte es fast für eine Treppe halten die oben auf dem Berg führt. Ich finde nur dass die Seiten etwas zu dunkel geraten sind.

Bonjour, cher ami Frank,
L'image est très intéressante, car elle met bien en relief le "travail" effectué par la nature au fil des siècles. La roche s'use doucement et forme des strates rappelant des marches d'escalier.
Un cadrage soigné avec une très belle vue. Je ne connais pas beaucoup la montagne, ma ville doit culminer à 165 mètres !

da waren wirklich gewaltige Kräfte am Werk. Durch die Schatten treten die Schrammen deutlich hervor. Gute Komposition.

Hi Frank,
Both a very composition with the sloping lines from the mountains and a very interesting photo with these ice scratches. Such ice scratches are also very common on the rocks in our archipelago here. I have often wondered if the scientists some 20000 years ago were very worried about global warming when they saw the inland ice retreat, after having covered Europe for some 100000 years. Maybe they didn´t care...

tolles Bild von diesem ehemaligen Gletscher und den umliegenden Bergsilhouetten.
Grossartiger POV mit den angeschrammten Felsen im Vordergrund und den drei Bergsilhouetten im Hintergrund. Zusammen mit deinem informativen Text eine gut gelungene Präsentation der heute noch sichtbaren Spuren länsgt vergangener Zeiten.

die Kraft der Natur kann man wahrscheinlich nirgendwo so faszinierend empfinden als in den Alpen. Die Landschaft erscheint auf dem gut aufgebauten Bild wie ein Spielplatz von Giganten.
