Façade photo of famous Fritschi restaurant in Lucerne, old building from 16th century.

Legendary brother Fritschi plays an important role in Lucerne's tradition associated with fun and festivity – especially the Lucerne carnival (Fasnacht).

The story of the legendary Brother Fritschi plays an important role in Lucerne's Carnival tradition. No one really knows the true story of Brother Fritschi.

One legend which goes back to around 1450 and the most probable explanation is that there was a farmer (or farmhand) living outside town making jokes whenever he came to town.

Medieval town clerk and chronicler reports that Fritschi left some money to Lucerne’s Saffron Guild on condition that they serve wine to the poor during carnival (Fasnacht) festivities. The guild is still fulfilling this obligation today.

This painted facade refers to mask's of "brother Fritschi," and his family.

There is no shortage of colorfully embellished structures in Lucerne, murals like this are everywhere in the old town.

Bonjour Miro,

Vraiment réussi cette peinture sur les murs pour attirer les clients au restaurant. On peut passer beaucoup de temps à la regarder pour se creuser l'appétit. Une très belle netteté des détails.

A restaurant with a façade like this could not be overlooked by anyone even if they don't know about its history. The young men at the entrance are not aware of their important roles in this photo. They add the human presence that I find almost necessary for this kind of picture. They transform this into an interesting and vivid street-shot.

Fabulous painted facade, Miro, I think I saw this place in the old town Luzern.

Another beautiful façade! What work has gone into this place to make that work of art on the walls, so impressive to see! There does seem to be a slightly dark element to the artwork, but I always like that anyway. Very well seen and shot.

The two visitors at the entrance look quite small compared with the figures on top of the facade.
Not only the drawings but also the colours ensure that this restaurant certainly doesn't stay unnoticed.
The artist had a keen eye for more detailed work.
I didn't know that the old town of Luzern was famous for such murals.

I have also taken a picture of this same building, a virtual "must" for anyone that visits this great city! :) So incredibly vibrant and colorful, it's impossible to miss...and that's a good thing! Love the fact you included the people, adding a touch of scale and human element to the visual. With many available, this is the one that's always stood out in my mind. Wonderfully composed to best showcase this fine public artwork, and I like the fact you caught this with a mild shadow cutting a diagonal line across the frame for added impact. Bravo good sir! Hi Miro,

You're capturing well this restaurant by a good angle and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see the restaurant's facade with the colorful paintings in medieval times. The building looks like that the ground floor is restaurant and the above of the second floor is housing apartment. Even so, there are paintings of a novel design.
