Photographer's Note

From Germany to Switzerland, from Frankfurt to Swiss Alps; the photo shows view from Klausen Pass road down to Linthal in Swiss Canton of Glarus.

Klausen Pass is a mountain pass (alt. 1,948 m) in the Swiss Alps connecting the Cantons of Uri and Glarus.

As well as being a popular route for cyclists and motorcyclists, the Klausenpass also forms part of the Alpine Pass Route, a long-distance hiking trail through the Alps in Switzerland.
It starts in Sargans in eastern Switzerland, and crosses the heart of country westwards to finish in Montreux on the shore of Lake Geneva.
The total route covers over 350 km and crosses 16 mountain passes, and takes around 20 walking days to complete.

The Klausen Pass is the first "major" alpine pass you reach driving south from Zurich, in fact, using the highway you can be at the foot of the pass in a little over 1 hour - it really is a passage directly into the heart of the Alps.

The great thing about the Klausen pass, unlike some other passes in the Alps, is there is a highway alternative, therefore the traffic on the pass is really restricted to locals or driving enthusiasts, so never gets busy despite it's proximity to Zurich.
The Klausen Pass is home of the legendary Klausen Car Run, a 21.5 kilometer pre-war hill climb.

More recently a vintage event is run every 4 years, and is now held (nominally) every four years for vintage cars; the most recent event was held on 27th-29th September 2013.

The race (and of course the pass) consisted of 136 curves with a difference in altitude of 1237 meters (bottom to top).

In 2006 the race was labelled by far the craziest mountain motor race in Europe with over 40’000 spectators and was honoured in Stoneleigh Park with the prestigious “Speed Event of the Year" award.

Hello Miro, In Italy it is named curva pericolosa, always funny for me. (I will not explain why :)). Really breathtaking view. But I would be scare to go there down.

Howdy Miro,

Your Klausen Pass road scene stimulates me to hopefully drive it someday, and in a convertible. The curving road negotiating the steep slopes, craggy mountains surrounding with forests at lower levels and the distant valley and more adventures beckoning.

Glad you decided to stay. I also had some of my uploads banned. Wish TE would contact any planned bannings to give the member a chance to fix things first. Often all that is required is an extra line of information in the notes. I like the meandering road and the repetition of the motor cyclists here. Good sharpness, colour and saturation. The blue sky contrasts well against the yellow green grass. The jagged mountain peaks provide a majestic backdrop. Tfs!
