Photographer's Note
Regards from Ukraine.rnrnHere is the castle in Khotyn, known in Polish as Chocim. It is the place not known and popular for Western tourist but very important in the history of Poland. rnThe Battle of Khotyn or Battle of Chocim or Hotin War[4] was a battle held on 11 November 1673, where Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth forces under hetman John Sobieski defeated Ottoman Empire forces under Hussain Pasha. It reversed the fortunes of the previous year, when Commonwealth weakness led to the signing of the Treaty of Buchach, and allowed John Sobieski to win the upcoming royal election and become the king of Poland.rnrnPolish-Lithuanian forces and Wallachian regiments were 30 thousand strong. The Turks commanded 25–30 thousand troops and 120 guns. In this battle rockets of Kazimierz Siemienowicz were deployed successfully. The victory allowed the Poles to revoke the unfavourable Peace of Buchach and set the stage for the role Sobieski was to play in the Battle of Vienna in 1683.rn(from Wikipedia)

Hi Malgo
Wondered where you. My posting a couple days ago was one that Chris reckons you are sure to like and I agree with him.
The Ukraine is another country thatI haven't been. You note covers interesting history to go with the good photo of the castle.
Cheers

Hi Malgo
Lucky you! I wanted to visit Ukraine but they have made it especially difficult for Australians who are only allowed to fly into Kiev or Odessa, or land at Odessa seaport. Initially I was going to catch a train from Budapest to Lvov, but only Schengen Nationals can do that. Then I planned on going to the Ukraine consulate in Bucharest but got the flue and there were huge riots in the Romanian capital at that time against Government immunity against its own corruption, so I stayed put in Western Romania. Looking fwd to your Moldova shots. London Steakhouse across the road from Cosmo Hotel offers good food. Not that expensive. Andys Pizza in a pinch. Tfs!

Hello Malgo
A lovely view of the historic castle with the water and the surrounding greenery going all the way to the blue horizon. A very appealing composition that is best appreciated in the large view showing the texture of the castle walls.
Thanks for sharing and have a great day!

Hello Malgo,
Paul was here too, not very long ago, but his photo was very different. You found a totally different POV, although from the same angle. The castle is fantastic and the view of the river is also superb. Even the weather looks nice (Stockholm today +4 °C). So you have already been to Moldova and obviously survived the Roma city. But surely you were robbed? ;-)
Best wishes,
Gert

Hello Malgo,
So, this is where you have been hiding. Excellent point of view on this impressive castle installed by the river. The path sweeping in from the right offers a good lead whilst the visitors enliven the scene and give scale. Agreeable soft lights and colours and good sharpness. Thanks for the interesting note; I'm afraid I don't know much about Polish history.

Ciao Malgo,
Quel beau point de vue sur ce château forteresse en bord de rivière. La lumière est très belle sur ses murs de pierres jaune. Il semble aussi très populaire .

Hi Malgo
I was wondering where you were haha.
so you are in the Ukraine! Yes, it may not be popular as a tourist destination for us Westerners, but it should be. Just look at it, its stunning, and so photogenic. I wonder what the interior is like, i hope you have photos to share. you chose an effective pov as it shows off the lighting so well, so bright and warm. beauty! cheers

Hello Malgo,
What a lovely castle in a beautiful setting. It's interesting to see a town that's not so well-represented here on TE. it's an impressive view, and it makes me imagine scenes from the past.

Hi dear Malgo,
Thank you for your detailed account of the Battle of Khotyn and what followed thereafter: a piece of history of which I confess I was totally ignorant.
And what a splendid castle! This is a very finely composed photograph, the castle with its interesting roofline perfectly placed in the frame and set next to a river in glorious green countryside. I love how the pathway with its colourfully dressed visitors leads the eye directly to the castle too.
Lovely bright sun, rich colours, perfect exposure and exquisite details and sharpness.
Beautiful!
Kindest Regards,
John.

Hello Malgo,
This is one of the few places in Ukraine I've also visited.
Clearly more people were visiting the castle when you were there.
It has such a beautiful setting.
So you will also have been to nearby Kamianets-Podilskyi. I hope you liked it.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Malgo.
I love this photo because of its beautiful castle so well preserved and with many visitors for what it is seen, but the view next to the river and the green plain is ideal.
Very nice color, which together with good sharpness and optimal lighting, gives great image quality.
Well done. I like very much.
You have a good day.
Very best regards.
Luis.
P.S. The Roman ruins of Syracuse do not visit them, since I already did it in another trip of many years ago.

Hello Malgo,
This is a very pleasant view of the beautiful castle by the river. Wasn't it the Polish that defeated the Ottomans when they laid siege to Vienna, as well?
