Photographer's Note
this is spelga reservoir, in the mourne mountains of county down, northern ireland, close to the source of the river bann. this picture was taken just as the sun had set over pigeon rock mountain (behind me).
the reservoir was formed by the building of the spelga dam, and sits at over 1,200 ft above sea level. the reservoir and dam were built as part of a project that had origins in the idea of supplying water to belfast, in 1894.
the spelga reservoir itself was finally developed between 1953 and 1957 and supplies water to the banbridge and portadown areas of counties down and armagh.

Hello Brian,
it`s nice to see you posting again, especially when it`s such a stunning shot.
The long exposure has turned the water to silk with the drowned trees playing their part in a well considered composition.
The pink/blue tones are simply delightful, love it.
All the best Les.

Hi Brian
Nice to see your work again!
Beautiful delicate colours dictate the mood here. I love the way the water. smoothed by long exposure, reflects the hues of the sky.
Masterful composition according to the rule of thirds with well-chosen foreground interest.
The only "criticism" - it doesn't make me feel low at all! ;) It's pure joy to look at.
Happy New Year to you and yours!

Hello Brian,
A Very Happy New Year to you!
It's lovely to see you back posting photographs again - I can only assume that you've been very, very busy lately.
And what a fabulous photograph to show us at the beginning of the year! As always, I can tell that this picture is one which has been taken with the utmost care and attention - and probably considerable forward planning too - to catch the light and weather conditions at just the perfect time to enable a long exposure.
The light and the soft and subtle colours are divine and I love the reflections of that light and those colours on the silky smooth water of the reservoir. The half submerged trees and their reflections are just the icing on the cake.
A very fine composition with lovely light and colours, perfect exposure and exquisite details and sharpness.
Beautiful!
Kind Regards,
John.

Hello Brian
You don't post often these days, but when you do, it's an event worth waiting for. This is quite simply stunning, the result of patient waiting for the right place, time, light. And you haven't gone mad with the saturation, as so many on this site seem to do. It's straight into my favourites!

Hello Brian,
How good to see you posting again.
This is a beautiful shot with the soft light and images, slowly blurring into the distance, carrying the viewers on a magic carpet of delight!
Those trees, so unusual in water, give excellent f/g attention, and because of their shadows create a greater presence.
This certainly has your stamp on it.
Have a lovely day,
Bev :-)

Hello Brian - It's good to see an upload from you, you present this Irish landscape with the delicacy and flair we are accustomed to seeing from you. Subtle, dirty pinks convey mood and mystery. I love the soft reflections of the leafless branches, they have come out so well on the silky water; excellent light management!
Warmest wishes for 2015. I hope you find time to pop in more often!

Gidday dear Brian
A simply magical shot. The pink tones blow me away, as do the subtle and elegant textures of the half-submerged trees. The sky and water are perfectly exposed and the feeling of tranquillity and peace is palpable.
Best wishes and congratulations
