Loch Lochy, a photo from Highland, Scotland

Photographer's Note

The imaginatively named Loch Lochy in Scotland, taken just as it started to rain.

I rarely shoot with black & white in mind - I tend to feel a bit lost without colour, but this view was almost monochromatic in real life, so I thought I'd give it a go!

I'm not 100% pleased with the composition, but I was having to stand on some floating logs at the side of the loch, so my options were limited.

Hi Benjamin,

Lovely composition. There might be some shake because of your awkward position, but that does not affect the mood and atmosphere. The shadows of the leafless trunks looks great. The title could have been to 'From darkness to enlightment'!

Peerless BW work here, Benjamin, what's not to like. of course the composition supports the tone work, and it is sensitive and solid. Well seen!

B&W, Scotland, lochs, 10-20! Best ingredients for a good shot, really! the light is really impressive, as it can be in this wonderful country.

hello Benjamin,

I'm not exactly sure how you'd like to change the composition, to me it looks just right, the wide angle has nicely exaggerated the perspective to draw the eye of the viewer along the lead-in lines of the logs in the water towards the light on the horizon. I definitely like this spooky result.
