Photographer's Note
This shot was taken from Criccieth beach looking towards Criccieth Castle in Gwynedd, North Wales on my recent trip to Snowdonia.
Criccieth Castle dates from the early 13th century. Because of its strategic location, it was a focal point in the war between England and Wales — eventually it was captured by Edward I of England during his second campaign in North Wales (1282-1283).
This is my second in a series of compositions I took from this location, I uploaded the first one yesterday. For this one, I wanted to show the variation in the sizes and colours of all the pebbles and rocks, leading you into the shot towards the larger rock on the left and the castle in the background on the right.
To smooth the waves coming across the bay and to add an ever so slight misting effect in the shallows, I wanted to really slow the exposure time and given this was taken at about midday I had to resort to an 3 Stop Grey ND filter, which with my lens at it's narrowest aperture allowed me to get a 2s exposure time.
As always your feedback is much appreciated so let me know what you think!
Cheers
Simon

Hey, Simon,
I've become a real fan of your work. I love the colorful, pebbly FG in this and the way the rocks get progressively larger toward the hill with the castle. Beautiful light and color, wonderful detail and an excellent note. VERY well done! Many thanks and kindest wishes,
Shelly

Hello Simon,
Your plan to draw the eye from the scattering of jewel-like pebbles and then upwards to the castle has been carried out successfully! The colours are lovely and the sharpness is there where needed
Best wishes...Maggie

Bonjour Simon.
J'aime cette composition qui invite le regard à sauter de rochers en rochers pour parvenir au château bien campé sur le relief. Les couleurs et la lumières font un ensemble très agréable.
Bonne journée !

Hi Simon,
Nice composition. You used very well the rocks in the foreground to create a good depth of field. Light is very nice too.
