Photographer's Note

As we all know Craig loves Abandoned subject.
Doesn't matter what it is, could be abandoned planes, cars, truck, homes, hospitals, orphanages, churches, power plants and mills, ships/boats....and Olympic Parks.
Could be something added to this list??
Yes!! Here something special - abandoned pier in Wales.

Victoria Pier is a Grade II listed pier in the seaside resort of Colwyn Bay on the coast of North Wales between Rhyl and Llandudno.
Designed by Maynall & Littlewoods of Manchester, Colwyn Bay's Victoria Pier was one of the later British piers to be built, with construction starting in June 1899 by the Salford firm of William Brown & Sons. Its official opening was on 1 June 1900, when the architect, Mr. Littlewood, handed a golden key to the pier's owners.

From Llandudno I went back to Liverpool. I bought the National Express ticket from Colwyn Bay. First, it was was difficult to find the bus stop from Llandudno to Colwyn Bay. But a guy from the hostel shower it to me. But in Colwyn Bay I had no idea where it could be. I asked many people, even bus drivers, when the bus stop of National Express was, no one knew. I walked rather nervous around, in different directions. Luckily I had more time. Someone told me to go to railway station. No bus there, but at least it was this ruined pier. Finally in a shop there was a guy who knew. He showed me the way, and later, when I was still unsure, went after me by car, indicating direction. Everything ended well.

On the pier it was written:
ADELAIDWAITH PERYGLUS CADWCH DRAW ODDI WRTH Y PIER
(and in English Dangerous structure, keep away from pier). :

Hi Malgo,i seen something of similar in Brighton many many years ago,with the old abandoned pier close to the new,an excellent capture,i like the diagonal perspective,nice idea the natural frame below made by the dry algae on the beach.Have a nice Sunday and thanks,Luciano

Hello Malgo,
Very sad to see the pier in this condition; I used to visit Colwyn Bay quite a lot when I was a lad on day trips from Liverpool with my parents. Nevertheless, it makes an excellent photographic subject. I like the point of view with the beached seaweed in the foreground, which sort of mimics the abandonment of the pier. Ideally exposed with very good colours and sharpness. Lovely note as well; I am always amazed at how much you are able to pack into your trips and all by public transport, very resourceful lady.

Craig is not the only one fascinated by old abandoned buildings they are places I also actively seek and enjoy, today's post being an example. This old pier looks amazing and I cannot believe I was not aware of it until this post. A sad and haunting reminder of past glories and therein lies the character poignancy and appeal. A superbly composed and presented shot that makes its loneliness and desertion all the more powerful. Not been back to North Wales for a few years, but now a return is beckoning....TFS.

Peut-être abandonné mais encore très photogénique. J'aime beaucoup ces vieilles structures avec de très belles textures. Une très belle diagonale dans l'image et un avant plan assez spécial.

What a beautiful subject, I too love abandoned places, and this is a mysterious and quite creepy looking example. Beautiful detail in the railings, a sign of the care in its construction. I wonder why a fine place like this is today abandoned? Whatever the reason it has given a wonderful subject for you to photograph, and I love this image. The workshop images are a real bonus to see these other views.

Hi Malgo,
A very interesting picture of this abandoned pier. I am sure this was once a Mecca for people on holiday, where they easily could spend all their money. A quite picturesque structure remains now.

Hi Malgo,
A very strange construction, typical British I think. There is nothing like these piers in Sweden. Even those that are still used look very strange to me. I can imagine this one being haunted by the ghosts of losing gamblers and unsuccessful entertainers. The rotten seaweed suits this place well.

Howdy Malgo,

Interesting bleak feeling view of derelict Victoria Pier, from the beach foreground of dense seaweed and debris.
I wonder why developers have not created something for tourism on this huge pier complex?

i luoghi abbandonati hanno un fascino speciale, forse è per questo che sono dei soggetti frequenti.
Questo molo è enorme, non riesco a immaginare il movimento che poteva esserci nel momento di massimo splendore.
Ottimo lavoro come sempre, anche i ws sono molto interessanti.

I haven't seen this pier - what a find! You have shown lovely detail on this rusting pier which has lost most of its paint. Hard to imagine how it must have been in its heyday when holidaymakers enjoyed themselves visiting it.

A good story about your adventure in Colwyn Bay.
I like the low viewing position so that the seaweed dominates the foreground. The structure looks like a dilapidated Brighton Pier.

Hi Malgo,

The dark abandoned pier makes a fine photographic subject and the shallow fg dof adds interest. The birds animate the scene, and sharpness and colour saturation are excellent. A subtle warm cold color contrast between the blue grey and yellow seaweed on the beach. Tfs!

Hi Malgorzata!
It must be really worth a visit inside! Good pov! The weather adds to the atmosphere and I like it with the birds flying above and the foreground, that I believe is seaweeds and garbage.

I nosing around to see your gallery. I really like this one!
I'm like Craig; I like abandoned places too and I have a weak spot for piers and beaches and the sea. So this is really my kind of place and my kind of shot. Great colors, sea weed in the FG, teh strange abandones structure on it's poles and 2 lonely sea gulls patroling.
