Photographer's Note
William Hickey's Almshouses.
Hickey's Almshouses are almshouses between Sheen Road and St Mary's Grove in Richmond, London. They are Grade II* listed by Historic England and this listing also extends to the site's chapel (which is dedicated to St Francis) and to its lodges.
1834 inscription at Hickey's Almshouses
William Hickey memorial in Chapel of St Francis
A plaque over the entrance records that the almshouses were built "for Ten poor Men and Ten poor Women by the bounty of William Hickey Esq. Who by his Will bequeathed certain Lands and houses in Richmond in Trust for Charitable purposes".William Hickey, who died in 1727 and is buried in an altar tomb in the churchyard of St Mary Magdalene, Richmond, left the income of several properties on Richmond Hill, including The Wick, in trust to provide pensions for six men and ten women. In 1822 the charity's funds were boosted by a major donation by Elizabeth Doughty.
Twenty almshouses, designed by Lewis Vulliamy,in Neo-Tudor style with high chimneys, were built in 1834 from the trust's income. In 1834 the trust also built a chapel and two gate lodge cottages. The property, which includes another 29 buildings behind the almshouses, now consists of 49 flats and cottages,a laundry and a workshop.
The almshouses are managed by The Richmond Charities. New residents are accepted from 65 years of age.

Hello Danos,
It's a quite beautiful row of houses with attractive details, including the high chimneys. They are nicely situated in a park area which you used well to frame the view. The colours are well saturated.
Kind regards,
Gert

Kalispera Danos,
A very good choice of a distant POV, showes beautifully the returning pattern of the facade, chimneys, the large yard in front of, and view through the naked branches.
Excellent clear photo, bravo.

Hello Danos,
Such a great photo of these houses from an excellent POV and they're nicely framed by the bushes and trees. The architecture is so charming with its yellow bricks and large English chimneys. Well captured.

Hi Danos,
The diagonal line made by the house is creating depth an perspective. The point of view is shwoing the details of the Hickey's Almshouses. There is a good contrast between the colors of the picture. Have a nice day.

Hi Danos
Pristine looking ye olde building bet you can't beat a bit of good old fashioned brick work for cheerful colour and texture. The architect had a good vision here with all the shapes of the doors and windows, and great framing by the trees. Interesting image as always accompanied by a very informative narrative. Great shot, Congrats
Best wishes

Hello Danos
This Georgian era row of poorhouses for the elderly has been well captured. Good sharpness and the path adds a nice lead in line. Excellent sharpness & nice repetition of repeating patterns and shapes such as the chimneys and windows. Tfs!

Hello Danos,
These are really attractive almshouses showing a neat style and tall chimneys to ensure the smoke went up into the sky! I like how you have used the pathway as a natural guide and the bushes to anchor the f/g.
Philanthropic people who had a rich income often sponsored almshouses as they believed it would be in their favour when they died, ensuring that the entered Heaven.
Have a lovely day,
Bev :-)

Hello, Danos!
Beautiful architecture of this building, with its dark tones making a great contrast with the sky. The vegetation in the foreground gives an interesting atmosphere to the scene, besides a very good depth! Wonderful composition! Well done!

Bonjour, cher ami Danos,
Voilà une architecture plaisante et typique du Pays. Il émane une sorte de sévérité à travers ces murs.
