Photographer's Note
Good Morning Everyone,
We all have historical sites in our own neighbourhood which rarely seem to raise interest! In our village, we have this remnant of a once busy tramway!
This was part of Colne and Trawden Light Railway.
The first tram into Trawden ran from the nearby town of Colne to Trawden's Rock Hotel, on 22nd June 1904.
This section of the track was built a little later, in 1905. (At the top of the trackway, there is still a piece of the metal track in evidence. I will show it as a workshop.)
The last tram to Trawden ran on 3rd June 1928.
At this point, omnibuses took over the role of public transport into the village!
Isn't it interesting how tramways have gained popularity in modern cities, but not in towns and villages!
I hope I haven't bored you with this, Bev :-)

Hi Bev,
The length of the road is giving dynamism to the scene. The point of view is showing the details of the fence, of the trees and of the fence. The light is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.

Hello Beverley, what immediately attracts my attention here is just how green it looks! Beautiful.
The history of the tram is interesting, and the fact that so many were taken out of use, before their time! As we have seen a revival in cities like Sheffield and Manchester in recent times.
The stone road is perfectly placed in your composition.
Thanks for sharing.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hello Bev,
This is not boring! I find it amazing that trams were running through such rural areas 100 years ago. It doesn't sound worth the big investments. But without this path having been cleared for the tracks you may not have had such a nice road through the village today. The surroundings are really beautiful, so green and lush, and the photo is as usual well composed. I love the WS too. The cobblestones create a beautiful pattern.
Best regards,
Gert

Hello Bev
Excellent linear perspective with the curved path & fence, which nicely guide the eye towards the white walled cottage in the bg. Good sharpness and framing with a soft diffused light. Tfs!

Hi Beverley,
I can only imagine the tram ride through the beautiful neighborhood and its noise while on the tracks.
Now much quieter, obviously.
Magnificent corner of your village, so many tones of green this time of the year - must be a charm stride along.
Wish you a nice weekend,
Ike

Pozdrav.
Lep put, ograda, zeleno drvece i kuca u pozadini, dobro pokazano sa lepim bojama, kontrastom, perpsketivom i uhvacenim trenutkom sa oblacima koji dolaze i najavljuju promenu vremena.
Dobar rad sa lepom fotografijom u radionici.
Zelim vam lepo popodne, sve najbolje.

Hello Bev,
What a lovely entrance with the cobblestone way.
This way leads us between the wall and closing with a nice rural house in background.
Sharpness and clarity are superb.
Very well done, TFS.
Have a nice weekend,

Hi Bev,it is a very interesting post that talks about the past of your village and in which I review the history of mine. Also in my country passed a tram that went as far as Milan, called "gamba de legn", that means wooden leg, because all the seats and even the outside were built with this material. It disappeared after the war and the tracks were buried by asphalt. Excellent photos as always showing what remains of an almost centennial past. Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

Dear Beverley,
Its a sad thing that the tramway was wound-up. Its a modern-day phenomenon as well: here in Hungary more and more tracks are wounded up and substituted with buses.
Anyhow, the photo is nice, however I would say its a Roman road than a foundation of a track.
Best Wishes,
Gy.

Hi Bev
A good bit of history and a picturesque semi-rural scene.
It looks like it now provides a fairly rattly drive on those cobble stones good WS as well.
cheers

Hello Beverley,
When I read your note, I was at first very surprised that a tram once ran in such a rural environment. After all, in Belgium I only know the tram as a means of urban transport.
But I do remember the stories of my parents from their childhood and a closer look shows that in the last decades of the 19th century and in the first decades of the 20th century, Belgium had an extensive network of neighbourhood trams all over the country. So also in rural areas.
However, in the second half of the 20th century, most tram services were replaced by bus services.
Currently, only the cities of Brussels, Antwerp and Ghent have a tram network (even an extensive one).
We also have the coastal tram. This tram line runs the entire length of our limited coast (about 67 kilometers) and is important from a touristic point of view. That is actually the only tram line that also runs outside the cities.
Finally, in several places we still have a museum tram.
Thinking about this, it makes a lot more sense that a tram once ran in the beautiful landscape you show here.
Nowadays it seems more like a quiet walking path through a beautiful green undulating region.
Well composed with the bend of the cobbled street. Great view of the landscape that offers a variety of trees and meadows.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Beverley,
I like the wide composition and the path with the fence and wall on either side lead very nicely towards the white house among many different shades of green. Very well captured.

Hello Bev,
This is such an idyllic country scene. I like the curve of the path and the fence, and all the greenery. The info about the tram, and the photo in the WS are very interesting, too. There used to be a trolley that ran near my home in the early part of the 20th century, and remnants were visible up until a few decades ago. It's too bad I never took photos of the rails before they disappeared...Take care!

Hi Bev,
This is a pleasing photo with the lush greenery and the old stone road curving off into the distance. It's a very neat looking landscape where even the bushes have been trimmed. This tramway didn't last very long, considering the work that went into it. The last tram to Trawden sounds like the name of a book or movie.

bev
nice you posted an WS where we can see the original position of the tracks in the ground. the main post is very beautiful with the soft curve of the road and the typical rural british landscape at side, this made me to come back there in a second. I never liked trams, I guess I never used them too. those wires above ever spoiled the urban landscape.
take care

Hello Beverly,
A cobblestone road surrounded by manicured lawns - a dreamland!

PS. I chose the interior view as the main upload because I was mesmerized by the curtains.

Hi Beverley,
If you were born earlier, you could use the tram to reach your village. Today the track has been converted into a cobblestone walking path. I do not suppose that it is a comfortable surface for cycling.
Good picture in long perspective with surrounded houses and fields.
Well done with great quality.
Best regards,
Zbigniew
