Photographer's Note
The Old Man of Storr in the northern part of skye is a truely amazing landscape, surely the most stunning scenery in the UK. When we arrived at our B&B the night before the trip to the Old Man it was lashing it down with rain. Our B&B host advised us that we had little chance of good light the next morning as the squall was due to last 4 days. But the next morning dawned and the rain had stopped! So we started the steep ascent up to the Storr, watching with trepidation as clouds rolled overhead. As we reached the base of the Old Man, the rain came in, very heavy. We waited in the shelter of the basalt column for about 30 minutes and were eventually rewarded when the rain stopped. We continued the ascent to this viewpoint and were rewarded with crazy everchanging skies. As an added bonus, the rain must have disuaded others from making the climb, as in over 4 hours we never saw another soul, making the experience that much more magical.

This picture is fantastic! The colours, the light, the shape of the stones, everything contributes to giving this picture a dramatic atmosphere. The lost world is a good title: it looks so desert, and so much tossed by the elements. Thank you for the story also.
It is very well done,

It is a magnificent landcscape and a really good comnposition and the rocky crags contrastinf so well with the rolling green hills. The sky pictorially is superb but the magenta tinge to it does let the overall image down just a touch.

Stunning dramatic view. The landscape is huge but becomes magic under that light. The clouds, the rays of light, the enlighten area create wonderful volumes and colors. Fantastic shot !

It is an absolutely beautiful sky and landscape. I like how you're about even with the cloud cover so you get the veiw above it all. I'm always interested in how the overview of the land looks. I think its do to my dentist when I was young. He had aerial photographs in his waiting room- I would miss the first few minuets of my appointments because I would be too busy examining the photos. Back to this photo- You got a beautiful shot- hardly looks real. Great job!

Adam, this is a fantastic shot with wonderful hues of green and grey. It makes me think of 'The Lord of the Rings' where we also have this kind of fantastic landscapes. The light effects on the sea are also stunning. The composition is quite simple, but nonetheless efficient.

What a beautifull landscape, such a lighht is amzing, it pointed out all the details of the landscpae by the created shadows. The picture is very deepth, luminous, clors are very beautifull, it's very sharp, well composed, letting place to the real world an dthe uncreadible and mysty light. Very well done Adam

Hi Adam. I got directed to this from Patrick Colgan's notes to his photograph of the Old Man of Storr, and I am so glad I tried the link. This is one of the best landscape photographs that I have seen on TE for a while. The light is incredible, and the storm clouds make this a very dramatic composition. Great contrast and sharpness too. I am adding this to my favourites. Cheers . . . David

Hi Adam,
This is one of my favourites of your photos, which is saying a lot, as I greatly admire your style, and the work that goes into planning your photos is evident. The timing, point of view, and composition are all spot on. I do have to agree that there is a little too much magenta, and I think the green area could be a little brighter. But if I ever get something remotely close to this, I'll be a very happy guy.

Hi Adam,
this is in fact one of my favourite places in Europe...and in fact i have also visited it in October...hope to come back one day...as i really enjoyed the tricks the weather played there at this time of the year, exactly as your note says...but your image illustrates it much better really, a lot to enjoy...some great work with light together with this dense green foreground...cheers, arturo

Hi Adam, I live not too far from here on the Isle of Lewis but my job takes me to the old man on a fairly regular basis and I've winched quite a few walkers with broken ankles from there to our helicopter......I trust one wasn't you? lol. I know how quickly the weather can change and you've captured a wonderful shot with the rolling clouds and fantastic light behind them. As for there being too much magenta.....it doesn't matter because the overall effect is fantastic. Congratulations on a superb capture.

Great shot!! The colours and contrast are wonderful. I love the repetition of the rugged conical patterns in the mountains in the foreground as well as in the background, and interestingly, in the clouds too. The green of the grass goes well with the sephia tone of the clouds. Thanks for sharing.
