Photographer's Note
This is what passes for sand at Southend on Sea.
Southend (or Sarf end to cockneys) became famous as a day trip venue after the extension of the railway out of London in the mid 19th Century.
Also the sea isn't the sea it's the Thames estuary.
This shot was taken under the pier (which I think is the longest in Europe if not the world).
Today it maintains it's somewhat down at heel attraction.
Tech: Channels conversion R50G0B50, cropped, sharpened and added frame.

Well ballanced with the darker/brighter parts, the vertical reflection of what ever opposites well the horizontaly miniwaves of sand, good play of light and shadow. The frame works well too. The conversion was worth, gives a very good B/W.
Well seen and done, Richard. A kind of abstract

Richard this is almost i kind of art. I like the patterns and the different between light and dark parts. Simple but effective. Well done!

Nice abstract of the sand ripples, and the reflection or shadows of the columns adds life to an otherwise quite dead surface. Well done!
We have layered sandstoned here where the ripples are left after millions of years!

An interesting shot, taken from a nice low angle. Very good contrast and the light on the puddles is attractive. The suggestion of the pier supports adds atmosphere to the shot.

Sujet très original. Le noir et blanc est ici un très bon choix. Un petit touch " art moderne" Very well done !

Very interesting texture and reflections - find it hard to believe that sand can be formed this way by the water. Good work indeed Richard.

Very very cool. Like the vertical shadows pasing through the "dappled" sand structures. Works very well all up. Great shot...I'm jealous!!

Richard, your pictures knock me of my feet. Every single one is just perfect, composition, contrast. Just great b&w shots.

Amazing texture and exposure of what might of just been "muck" if not for the dramatic use of black & white and artful composition. Thanks for your useful notes too. Thanks

The tones and contrasts of your b/w work is just amazing Richard. Great textures on this one, and I love the reflections (trees?).

This is indeed a beautiful black & white, the title of the theme of which it is part. Nice and abstract. I'm not sure I like quite the amount of contrast that you have here, but in any case it's very effective. Nice job.
