the emulate one of whitby`s fishing fleet returning safely to port with her catch of white fish , government and eec quoters mean that this type of vessel is tied up in port for up to 14 days a month and next year who knows it could be even longer.

Whitby was one a thriving fishing port with around 20 large trawlers but now this has reduced to around 9 and only a couple of these are fishing for white fish the rest are targeting prawns and scallops.

The two small boats coming in with the emulate are local fishing party boats who take trips to sea for between 6 and 8 hours fishing and the yellow one in the distance is the esk belle which does trips to sea and also night candlelight cruises up the coast to staithes

At this time of year the pier extensions are ful of anglers fishing for mackerel which are abundant at this time of year

Hi Adrian,
I like the way you've framed the boats coming into the harbor. Your excellent light management shows in the excellent cloud detail.

Being a fisheman is truly a special way of life and it's sad to see many people lose a way life of life they love. We have a friend who fished salmon in Alaska who found his market wiped out by farmed salmon. The Newfoundland fishery was devastated by large factory ships that destroy everything in the wake of their huge nets dragging the bottom. There are whole villages that are unemployed.

I had long wanted to visit the Sea of Cortez because of John Steinbecks's book. When I visited it ten years ago, I was surprised to find so many areas stripped clean of all marine life that clings to rocks.

Sorry I didn't mean to get off on a rant, but the sea and everything to do with it is very close to heart.

Hi Adrian,
I am sooo far behind! Just saw your photo and like it very much. It has nice colors, sharpness and composition (although I personally would have put in more sky and less water, or more water and less sky - the Rule of Thirds and all that - but it is a minor thing). I also liked your Note very much, very informative on several levels. Thanks!

I missed this one Adrian.
I like the way you composed it with the two piers pointing the way to the returning fishing boats. Very good note to inform people of the sorry plight of the fishing industry.
Wasn't Rob going to organise a photography outing sometime?? I'll ask him and you have a go at him too. - That's if you're interested.

Hi Adrian,
Very colorful fishing vessels heading home with a brillant blue sky at their backs. Very interesting note about the restrictions applied to these boats. In the Maine most small harbors are full of lobster boats and about every 3 years the small trawlers set out to sea in very salty old boats with ane even saltier crew.
