Photographer's Note

The New Forest is around 2 hours south west of London, and offers a unique and untouched feeling of old England, where wild ponies still roam freely around the forest village streets.

This shot was taken at dusk, in an open space in the heart of the New Forest.

The effect of the light shining through the ponies leg hair, maine, and tail have finished nicely, as has the shadow falling forward from the pony. It's a shame about the silver reflector collar around the ponies neck; wild ponies in the forest are tagged with a metallic reflector collar around their neck, as there are no boudaries between the forest land and the roads that run through the forest - the collars make the ponies easily identifiable on the roads at night.
