Travels on the Silk Road in Syria:

In pre-Roman and Roman times trader caravans traveled from the Mediterranean shores to Palmyra and on to Baghdad and Iran. They, depending on the route taken, had to cross the river Orontes on which the city of Hamah lies today.
Hamah has been a year ago a peaceful city whose friendly inhabitants warmed your heart with their smiles, their "welcome" greetings and their immediate reaction to a question asked: "no problem".

The famous wooden water wheels, norias, are still lifting water from the Orontes onto aqueducts like in Roman times. The aqueducts today (you see one behind the wheel, the water is emptied on top of it into a channel) furnish water for public fountains only. The sound of the turning oak axles is ear-splitting ! Try to find more wheels with "Map: view" !

My sincere wishes are for the suffering people of Hamah !

The famous wooden water wheel built against the ruin of the building makes absolutely a lot impression..

mir gefaellt dieses Bild aus Hamah, eine Stadt, die ich ebenfalls vor 3 Jahren besuchen konnte. Eine Stadt, die zum zweiten Mal durch Bombenangriffen verletzt wird.
es ist schade, dass sowohl diese Denkmale als die Bewohner in einer so dramatischen Situation leben muessen
