Photographer's Note
As I exited Goreme Open Air Museum late in the afternoon, I spotted these Turkish Mounted Police surveying the area. If you look at the bg rock carefully you will spot a Flintstones type dwelling in the carved out upper section of the compacted volcanic ash. There are 3 dormant volcanoes around 60 -80 km away from town which have formed the incredible landscape around this region with its heavily eroded fairy chimneys or hoodoos.

Hi Chris
Don't remember mounted police in 1998 but it certainly looks like a bit of work has been done on the roads.
Good clear image showing off the tufa hills and abodes.
Cheers

Hello Chris,
Good capture of the troop of mounted police, but it is the dwelling and the rock that grabs most of the attention. Excellent colour contrasts and impeccable clarity.

Hello Chris,
In 1970 there were dirt roads through Cappadocia, no tourists and no infrastructure to handle any visitors. The marvellous caves and rocks were good reasons for people to come here. The policemen on their horses provide an original foreground for this photo.

Bonjour, cher Chris,

Hello Chris.
These volcanic formations have created in Cappadocia, a fairytale-like landscape, the police on horseback and cars put the note of current events.
Magnificent color, good brightness and sharpness.
Well done. I like.
You have a good day.
Very best regards.
Luis.

Bonjour Chris,
C'est très rafraîchissant cette scène où la police monte son cheval pour ralentir la circulation. C'est tout de même superbe cet arrière plan très formaté.
Amicalement

A picturesque rock formation, I wonder that it is allowed to carve holes in the rocks, although it is a reserve. The policeman on horseback is a bonus

Ciao Chris
la tua composizione è ricca di elementi, ma la cosa che più attira l'attenzione è l'utilizzo delle grotte e delle rocce.
È un paesaggio straordinario, mi piacerebbe molto vederlo dal vivo.
Saluti

Hello Chris,
These rock formations look really beautiful and it’s great to discover these carved out houses near the top. Must be a very special place to live. Your timing was excellent with the inclusion of the mounted police, as they add interest to the road in the foreground. The soft light was fine too.

Hello Chris,
What an interesting combination!
I have never seen Turkish, mounted police before and what juxtaposition of them with ancient cliff dwellings and modern vehicles! It's an immediately engaging photograph!
I like your angle, creating a fine sense of perspective and ensuring that ascending volcanic peaks (with their incorporated dwellings) have as much importance as the f/g images.
Have a lovely day,
Bev :-)

Hello Chris,
I have seen mounted police here in the U.S., but never in Turkey. That must be a new development since 1982.
