Photographer's Note
Approaching Selimiye Mosque from its eastern entrance, one walks up this ramp into the courtyard. The WS photo "Looking Up at Selimiye" is stitched from two other photos from this spot. Actually, all three photos were taken to stitch them together, but I could not overcome the resulting distortion and gave up. I made this one the main entry to show our entrance into this mosque's grounds.
Selimiye Mosque was commissioned by Sultan Selim II, and was built by the imperial architect Mimar Sinan between 1568 and 1575. Sinan considered this mosque to be his masterpiece. It is one of the highest achievements of Islamic architecture as a whole and Ottoman architecture in particular.
Edirne was one of Selim II’s favorite cities. He was stationed here as a prince when his father campaigned in Persia in 1548 and he enjoyed hunting on the outskirts of the city. Edirne was selected not only because of Selim II’s fondness of the city, but also for its historical and geographic significance. Located in the Balkans, within the European lands of the Ottoman Empire, Edirne had been a capital of the Ottoman Empire in the 15th century before Istanbul and was effectively the second city of the Empire through the 17th century.

Hi Murat
A good interesting trio of photos although I would have expected an entrance at the end of the path in the main photo. Your processing of the minaret photo has made it very skinny.
cheers

Hello Murat,
The walls provide four strong diagonal lines and also create fine depth. I would still have preferred WS #2 as main upload because of the better light and clarity of the colors and the wider view of the mosque. But never mind, I watch them all.

Gert

Hello Murat,
Low taken between two walls made with nature stones, with a nice frontage in background.
This create nice depth and perfect perspective.
An excellent composition.
Very well done, TFS.
Best regards,

Hello. Murat,
This viewpoint, using converging lines of the walls, creates an amazing sense of depth and perspective. The walls and the pathway are deeply textured and add the the overall effect.
One of your w/s uses a similar composition and I like that even better because of the brighter colours and light.
My warm regards,
Bev 😊

Hi Murat,a lot of work in your post today, only the first WS looks very stretched while the other 2 are really excellent, the 3D effect given by the perspective levels is crazy! Great repost to show Edirne mosque with great class and quality. Have a nice weekend and thanks,Luciano

Hello Murat,
Edirne is the second largest city in the European part of the country, I think. However, I wasn't there. It used to be visited by travellers who went overland to Turkey, but those who flew, usually travelled to the Asian part of the country after Istanbul.
Your second picture in the WS shows very well how impressive the Selimiye Mosque is.
A bit a strange entrance through these walls to visit the mosque.
Maybe an optical illusion, but in your main photo I get the impression that the space between the two walls is quite limited.
Only on WS1 the distortion is visible.
Clear and sharp photos!
Best regards, Paul

Hello Murat,
from the tree pictures, the view of the minaret is my favourite. Excellent symmetry in the main one and Workshop.

Hi Murat,
Seeing the name of the mosque and how impressive it is I got a bit confused. I thought there was a mosque with that name in Istanbul. But it was just trick of my memory, I meant Süleymaniye Mosque, which name for me sound similar. Ha ha
Very impressive structure here, the workshop photos are more classic while the main upload more creative.
I don't believe I have ever heard about this place, It is definitely worth to visit!

That's a great lead-in to the mosque, Murat. Somehow slightly tilted feeling, many lines not quite perfectly horizontal/vertical...that's the age of this location showing, only adding to its grandeur!
