Photographer's Note

Today's main entry is a collage of three images looking up in Hagia Sophia.

The left image is that of one of the four seraphim around the cupola of the basilica. Their faces were covered with stars in 1609 in the reign of Ottoman Sultan Ahmed and remained so until 2009, when one of the faces was revealed after a renovation. The right image show a seraph with a covered face.

The middle image is that of the cupola. The decorations were changed to Islamic calligraphy after the basilica was converted to a mosque.

The workshop has full size images of these frames (third one will be added when my daily quota allows it).
