Çevkor 1, a photo from Istanbul, Marmara

Photographer's Note

Having wandered through Eminönü, I came back to the waterfront and got into the pier for Bosphorus ferries. While waiting for my ferry, I snapped a few photos and this is one of the dredger Çevkor 1 coming through Galata Bridge.

Çevkor is probably a blend word made up of the first syllables of çevre (environment) and koruma (protection) in Turkish. My internet search revealed that Çevkor is a ship logistic services established in Istanbul in 1998. They provide garbage and liquid waste collections such as slop, bilge water, sludge as per regulations with a crew of about 50 on nine ships. Çevkor 1 was built in 2011.

Eminönü'yü gezdikten sonra kıyıya geri döndüm ve Boğaziçi vapurlarının iskelesine girdim. Vapurumu beklerken bir kaç fotoğraf çektim ve bu da Galata Köprüsü'nden gelen tarayıcı Çevkor 1’inki.

Çevkor, muhtemelen çevre ve koruma kelimelerinin ilk hecelerinden oluşan bir harman kelimedir. İnternet araştırmam Çevkor’un, 1998 yılında İstanbul'da kurulan bir gemi lojistik hizmeti olduğunu ortaya koydu. Yönetmeliğe uygun olarak, slop, sintine suyu, çamur gibi çöp ve sıvı atık toplamalarını yaklaşık dokuz gemide 50 kişilik bir ekiple karşılıyorlar. Çevkor 1, 2011 yılında inşa edilmiştir.

Hello Murat,
You were at my favorite photo spot in Istanbul, where new motifs are always found. This green boat may not be outstandingly beautiful, but when you are standing there with a camera in your hand you wouldn't have to think twice to snap a photo.

This is rare this are the colours of a Belgian boat and dredging company, the boat in foreground.
Also the city in background makes your picture attractive.

I would have liked to have seen the top of Galata Tower included here. The fg water is not overly important imho. Good sharpness and excellent timing to catch the passing green boat. Tfs!
