Imperial Gate & Empress Loggia, a photo from Istanbul, Marmara

Photographer's Note

We are looking at "the Imperial Gate[, which] is the door that was used solely by the Emperor and his personal bodyguard and retinue. It is the largest door in the Hagia Sophia and has been dated to the 6th century. It is about 7 meters long and Byzantine sources say it was made with wood from Noah's Ark.

The loggia of the empress is located in the centre of the gallery of the Hagia Sophia, above the Imperial Gate and directly opposite the apse. From this matroneum (women's gallery), the empress and the court-ladies would watch the proceedings down below." (From Wikipedia)

This is a wonderful place with interesting history. There are nice details everywhere and visitors are certainly impressed. I'm not sure why this view looks so grainy. I would expect a shot with ISO-160 to give smoother result.

Hi Murat,
wow, this interior is magnificent. I see it was not easy to photograph because the light was limited and the space quite huge hence you have some noise. The tripod would be better but maybe it is not possible inside. Very impressive,
