Photographer's Note
Please view the photo in the large beta version OLD TOWN.
I'm going way off the board here and showing something very different.
Honestly, i'm expecting this photo to generate very low TE points, and that's ok. I just wanted to show that not ALL areas of Dubai or Abu Dhabi are full of tall skyscrapers. That's what people think about when Dubai comes up in conversation, richness, never ending tall buildings, large shopping malls, beauty, modern architecture - and while that is true, there's certainly the Old town as well. Every city has its not so pretty side.
I wanted to explore this area and see the 'real' Dubai. As expected, it was gritty, run down with old architecture needing a lot of exterior repair work. In the WS is another example of the type of apartments locals live in, and its much different than what you usually see online.
There is an outdoor fish market just around the corner from this photo, I have some photos but the lighting was SO bad, they're not worth posting.
If you've viewed my photo and gave me 2 points I appreciate it haha.

Hi Craig,
You have captured well the vivid colors of the clothings and of the signs. The point of view is showing the details of the buildings. This is a normal daily life scene, each city has a poor and a rich sector. Have a nice day.

Hi Craig,
Dubai is well known for skyscrapers but it's an interesting other mood of this town, the old district with shops. Well presented, good perspective, perfect sharpness, nice colors, good effect with people, an interesting memory for me the visit of Dubaï, modern and old districts, tfs.

Hello Craig, I appreciate your photo and give you two points, haha. I am sure you will get many more.
What is here so different? It is a normal scene from the street, in the Arabic country, as we can see from the signs and people in traditional dresses.
I go to Dubai and Abu Dhabi in November. I am not so interested in Dubai, as I have seen it already, but I am looking forward to seeing the Mosque and Louvre in Abu Dhabi.
I check every day on FBVm is there is something new from you :).
Best regards MAlgo

Hello Craig,
In every modern city there is an older quarter that do not resemble to what one expect when seeing the new town (Realized this in Macau, with exceptional contrast to the casino buildings and the new hotels).
Three of the ladies spotted you with the camera, and they look as foreign-workers in Dubai, not local ladies.
Have a nice sunday,
Ike

Hello Craig,
This photo (and the WS) certainly gets my love, and 2 points. I had a quick look at the past 200 pictures or so from Dubai and didn't see any other showing an ordinary part of the city. Nobody else seems to have cared for anything but the big modern show-off buildings. Those photos always made me wonder if there is no ordinary life in the UAE. It's like a revelation to see there are streets as ugly as in Khartoum or Beirut.
Best wishes,
Gert

Hello Craig,
This is certainly a very different side of the city than the modern skyscrapers we usually get to see. I like the repetition of all the shop signs and their different colours. The group of women was also well included at left.

Bonjour, cher Craig,

HelloCraig,
I wouldn't expect you to go to the shiny, polished areas, anyway; usually the more derelict the better!
I do like to see contrasting parts of cities or towns, there is usually a flip side to the coin! I think the only disappointment is that the shops are not open so that we could understand the shop layouts and the range of products.
Anyway, I like that you have shown us a less wealthy area. The five ladies show quite a difference in their dress preferences, though the men are very similar. (What does that tell you!)
As always, you take care with your composition.
Have a good day,
Bev :-)

Hi Craig,
My congratulations even late for the baby. This is a side that is never shown in the photos and it was good you bring us this knowledge through these images. It's a stark contrast to all that Dubai wealth.
Congratulations for the work!

Hello Craig,
Another Dubai that is gritty and run down with buildings that need restoration ... I've never heard of it before.
This is a very interesting photo and note.
Is there no money for restoration for this part of Dubai?
In the WS you show us a picture with apartments that we would not immediately expect in that city. Do you know who's living there? Original inhabitants of the Emirates or workers from poor countries?
The other photo shows us three men in traditional clothing. But these men can also be immigrants from Pakistan or another poor country.
Your photos bring up an unexpected situation.
Very interesting!
Best regards, Paul

Not so much false modesty, Craig. 😉
I know that the TE members are unpredictable, but they will also appreciate this interesting series, especially when they see that they were made by the young father scrolls through his foto archive in between the changing of diapers.
Well done!
Have a nice day. Groet Rob

Ciao Craig
trovo che queste foto siano molto interessanti, diverse dalle solite foto da Dubai.
Qui si vede la vita comune, quella che di solito non viene mostrata.

Hi Craig,
You are so right, there aren't many photos from the old Dubai. This is much like how I would imagine Gert presenting Dubai. But I don't expect him to go there.
I'm not very good on street photos, but I should at least show some from the Dubai Creek some day.

Hello Craig,
I'll give this photo some love. Ha ha! :-) I like seeing the more gritty areas of cities, and this photo shows us a nice selection of storefronts - although they are all closed! I also like the view of locals walking by.

Hello Craig,
This is more like the Dubai I remember from the 90's. I prefer such ordinary scenes. 👍🏻👍🏻

PS. How's the little one doing?

Craig, i prefer that true daily life photo from Dubai instead of the common ones always showing the Burj Khalifa and the skyscrapers. The shops were still closed by earling morning. A group of Muslim African ladies is walking in the street. They have different clothing styles. I like the shop signs written both in English and Arabic.
