... What Lights / Phares have meant... "Against Darkness and Storm"
""Roughly a millenium ago, Vikings settled near L'Anse Aux Meadows, in Western Newfoundland. Several centuries later, Christopher Columbus, nephew of the lightkeeper at La Lanterna in Genoa, set sail for the New World. Millions of immigrants who eventually followed were beckoned to a safe landing in their new homeland by some of the historic lighthouses described here. ""
""Some lighthouses from the early 1900's were of traditional 8-sided timber construction, such as at Point Riche near Port au Choix, Newfoundland, Henry Island in Cape Breton (NS), at Riviere La Martre (site of a museum) on the Gulf of Saint Lawrence, Lonely Island in Lake Huron, or at Pachena Point on Vancouver Island, site of the terrible Valencia shipwreck of 1906. However, the vast majority of post-1910 lighthouses replicated the octagonal pattern using the new ferro-concrete construction technique. Examples are Peggys Cove and Western Island (NS), Cap Gaspe and Cap au Saumon (PQ), and Machias Seal Island (NB). This style was carried to impressive height (102 feet) at Cape Sable Island (NS), Long Point in Lake Erie, and Great Duck Island in Lake Huron. "" Source.
I'm grateful for the grey weather that drove off
most of the tourists and allowed me to get an almost unpolluted shot.
The light breaking thru lasted but a few moments.
The weather is a big variant here, providing for different moods.
PS Did a wee PP to adjust contrast.
Btw. I live close to the also still functioning 1758 Sambro Light!
Shot dedicated to Jj who first brought me to Peggys Cove.

Hi Jay,
It’s interesting to see this lighthouse, particularly when we know the tragic event that took place on this site recently. The gloomy weather fits perfectly with sea shore scene and with this landmark as well.
Cheers!

Superb colours, contrasts and textures in this! I love the way the mist sets off the rocks here

Hi Jay. A superb shot of this classic lighthoue. Well cropped to include the curved path as this shows. Having a man there shows the scale well. Thhat looks like a granite outcrop? Excellent work. Murray.

Olá Jay,
Hoje críticas só em português :)
Bonito farol.
Bom trabalho e bom fim-de-semana,
Aida

I actually enjoy Peggy's Cove more in the fog anyway. This is a nice shot of a very overly-shot location. I like the focus on the rocks and the muted colours of the rather dull but beautiful day. Nice work!

Amazing that you were able to take a picture of one of the most photographed locations in Canada with only one person - I like the way you used the pathway and the person to convey emotion.
The only recommendaion I would have would be to include a little bit more of the sky. Even though it was a grey day, i think adding a little bit more of it would further balance the picture. TFS

Brrrrrrrr Jay! This looks some cold, desolate and miserable! Very much the way I recall the Gray Coast when I used to live in NS. Old bones didn't like it much! Warmer climes are much kinder. But thanks for the memories with this shot.

Hi Jay!
I like light-houses as a rule, and I think this one is very picturesque, standing proudly on its round rocky hill. Good POV with the sharp lighthouse and the misty horizon! That's what lighthouses are for after all!
I also enjoy the little bit of vegetation, trying hard to grow amongst the rocks, and the lonely "pilgrim".
Good shot!
Marie Louise.

Hi Jay,
This one is striking and evocative .. the lighthouse against the fog is tremendous and evocative .. the stark stone adds to it. The path and the man are so dwarfed by the scene it adds to the feeling of the massive power of nature.
take care,
John
