Photographer's Note

For the past few years we have gone on holidays in the first week of October and we have rented a cottage close to Tobermory on the Bruce Peninsula. At this time of year there are fewer tourists and the numerous hiking trails that cross the peninsula are almost completely free of other hikers. I don’t mind meeting fellow hikers on the trail but there is something special about feeling almost completely alone in these wide expanses of wilderness.

So you ask, why this picture? Of course, a big part of the enjoyment of being outdoors and in the “wilderness” is coming home in the evening to a lovely cottage like this one, cooking a good dinner and having some wine. For those of you who are planning to visit Ontario, this is a great way to see it. This was taken early one evening just as the sun was beginning to set. I liked the colours and the light in this picture.
