Photographer's Note

These houses are typical in Toronto's Annex neighborhood. They are now in the central part of Toronto near the fashionable Yorkville area, but when they were built in the late 19th century they were in the suburbs. The picture was taken 53 years ago, but they look very much the same today, as can be seen from the picture in the Workshop, taken recently from approximately the same spot as the old one. In the 50s and 60s these houses were cheap rooming houses, now they are expensive upscale homes or offices.
