Photographer's Note

There is certainly no shortage of CN Tower pictures on TrekEarth, but I haven’t noticed any from this angle. I have tried to give a sense of the scale, but really it’s difficult to imagine just how colossal it is until you see it for yourself up close. It has been the world’s tallest freestanding structure since its opening in 1976 (it doesn’t count as a ‘building’ because it has no floors most of the way up). Much like the Eiffel Tower in Paris, it was highly unpopular when it was first built, but has since become a well-loved symbol of Toronto.

If you want to get a really good idea of the height, you have to go up to the viewing platform and stand on the scary glass floor…
