Photographer's Note
I haven't posted here for ages....life has just been too busy I guess:-)We often think of January as the coldest month of the winter but that certainly hasn't been the case sofar this year. The winter warmth of this snowshoe walk along a nearby stream is further enhanced by the warm light of a late afternoon sun piercing through an opening in the branches, with a touch of mist lifting off the water.

Hi Derek,
Long time no chat. Very nice and peaceful image, but the snow's a bit blue. I don't know if you are using filters but that's my next project, so as to get rid of this problem and blown out white clouds etc.
Just over 3 yrs ago I moved from Montreal to Vancouver's North Shore. Lots of snow now on the mountains 20 mins away: very good XC skiing and snow photography - hence above comments. But I miss the fabulous QC rivers, and haven't been in a canoe since moving. I, too, have been neglecting TE, though am much involved in photography at local club and competition level.
Cheers,
John

Hi Derek
You have captured a moment in time with the sun desparately trying to melt the snow. The lighting here was difficult but you have handled it well. The tree is nicely placed in the scene.

Beautiful shot, well described. Winter warmth indeed, a concept I've always thought must be experienced to be understood. Seems you've managed to convey it in a photo.
Perfect composition. Love the way that left-leaning tree pulls our eye through the frame.
Welcome back Derek, you've been missed!
