Photographer's Note

With this shot and my other picture I am thinking of starting a new theme on the crazy things that we Canadians do on the ice...

As you can tell, these guys are canoeing on the ice with a mix of very cold water... Actually these crazy guys where practicing for the ice canoe race that will be held next sunday.

Last friday and for the next two weeks, it's the winter Carnival here in Quebec city. It's the 50th edition and every year many tourists from all over come to celebrate winter during this festival. During this time, I will try to bring you more images from the carnival.

So if anybody is interested, I will build a team for the ice canoe race of next year... ;-)

Paul, nice picture. You have captured this scene very well. I like the colors and the contours of the ice. There is also action in the picture. Mabey you can crop next time a little bit of the bottom. But very well seen.

You Canadians are..something..
This is an amazing shot, Paul, of an amzing sport. They seem to push the canoe with their legs, isn't there a danger of falling into the icy water?
Your photo is well captured and framed, a very good subject and note. Joining the team? No, thanks, I prefer above zero temperatures :-).

Great photo, with a great note to accompany it! Very interesting subject! I like the way the colorful boat stands out from the background, and I like your composition and where you placed the boat in the frame. Very well done... and quite funny too! :-)

Nice shot. The colors of the boat are radiant. There is a lot of action and tension in this picture; The team seems very well trained, the balance of the boat looks perfectly well kept.
I won't come on the team, the water is tooooo cold.

An interesting, unique and crazy shot, Paul. All the colours look great on the rough icy surface. Well captured. I get the feeling, that the guy at the back is saying, "I'm not putting my feet in any icy cold water!".

Nice photo of a very strange sport. Though as a boy I also used to ride on big blocks of ice in spring :)

That looks -really- cold again; I'm afraid you have to count me out on the team for next year, Paul ;-) I like how the boat and crew stand out in colors against the pale patches of ice. This does look quite crazy, probably another interesting perspective would be a wider angl - with a smaller view of boat and people, and a larger area of ice - to kind of emphasize more how they are battling the adverse elements. Very interesting shot.

Super belle prise de vue, wow... J'aime bien toute cette glace qui donne un vrai aperçu des conditions de la course. Les couleurs sont belles mais peut-être un peu trop saturées sur les habits des compétiteurs, particulièrement le rouge.

Bravo pour cette belle photo! Il n'est pas facile d'avoir un bon point de vue comme tu l'as réussi pour cette activité très très originale! Cette photo cadre parfaitement avec la devise de Trekearth "Learning about the world through photography" et donne le goût d'aller faire un tour au carnaval de Québec. J'ai bien hâte de voir les photos suivantes que tu nous réserves!

Oui, ce sont bien des gens sportifs qui se mesure au fleuve. Image bien composée, on voit même l'eau au travers des glaces.
Dimanche, le 8 c'est la vrai course!
Je suis prête à vous aider pour l'organisation de la participation de TE à la course de l'an prochain.

Very interesting image. I like especially the contrast of vivid colors against the white of the ice. Excelent textures and details. I feel the frame is a bit too big on this one.

Nice capture and good timing. The red is oversaturated which gives an unnatural effect. Good note as well too. Again nice shot Paul.
