Photographer's Note
Moon rising over the Vancouver harbour, taken after sunset. The sky was still lit up from the sunset, which accounts for the colour. The other thing that accounts for the colour is that this was taken on film with Velvia. The building with the white "sails" is the Vancouver convention centre, which also is the main cruise ship dock. In the summer there are a lot of cruise ships which travel from Vancouver to Alaska and back, to view the mountains and glaciers.

HI Alvin
I'm amzed by this shot beacause most of time we have sunrise, never moonrise. The colors are outstanding. Really well done.

Hi Alvin
A good zoom shot, with superb sharpness, colour & clarity. I like the colour contrast between the blue fg & yellow moon. Tfs!

Hi Alvin,
I see you too are stepping into the pink hour business, it does indeed fit very well to the Vancouver skyline and the moon lightens the sky in a lovely way.
have a nice sunday,

Hello Alvin. I noticed this special moon capture over Vancouver harbour and had to comment. The moon reflection is gorgeous along with the blue to purple transition in the sky. Seeing the waterfront like this occurs seldom which makes this a special photo. Excellent work and thanks for sharing on Velvia.

Hi Alvin. Lovely photo with a compelling blue/purple color scheme that delivers a moody rendition of the moonrise at the harbor. Of course the moon itself and its reflection are beautifully integrated in the composition. A soothing and quiet result, nice work.

you have captured a very pleasing shot. I too would like to have had a bit more sky but the crystal clear reflection more than offsets my wish. The few streaks of clouds in the sky provides a real nice touch. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Alvin,
Well composed with the building on the right nicely balancing the frame and the moon in perfect position. I like the exposure level here. The moon has just enough texture to give it real character. The sails of the convention centre are well seen, and I like the double glint on the water to the left. A good example of the merits of occasionally using film to enhance the colour nicely. Well done.

Beautiful, Alvin, you certainly know how to make Vancouver look good. Of course it always helps when your model is attractive to begin with, and looks good in purple. Very sharp, particularly for a scan from a slide. A nicely balanced composition, except I'm not sure about the bright beam of light so close to the left edge. But that's really minor, just being picky. Very enjoyable to look at. Regards, Ken.

Hello Alvin,
What a lovely picture, you took this picture during the blue period of the evening, the moon and the reflections are very beautiful, but also the pink colour tintes about the generally image! Thanks for sharing.
Greetings,
John.

Bonjour Alvin,
des teintes bien féériques dans ces faibles lumières bien maitrisées par les paramètres d'exposition.
J'aurais cadré un peu plus haut.
Best regards.

Hello Alvin,
This is a fantastic shot! I have always wanted to take a photo like that, but have not had the chance yet. The moon is positioned perfectly in this shot along with the rest of the scene. Great composition with a wonderful POV and stunning colours! Excellent work, Alvin!

Hi Alvin!
Beautiful Vancouver! I’m just coming back from your picturesque city, that I’ve visited for six days and I was dreaming to create a superb shot like yours, but the weather decided otherwise... Each time I’m in Vancouver, it’s raining or covered with clouds...
I guess you have to live there if you really want to take advantage of the sunny patches and run out with your camera before it rains again... :-D)
I’m exagerating of course, and I’m sure you have some wonderful dry days; it’s just the frustrated photographer in me who’s speaking out the unachieved desire to shoot Vancouver properly.
So until my next visit, I can only admire your amazing photos, where light meets architecture. This one is particularly sublime, with the warm moon, the reflection on the bay and the subtil lights on Vancouver Center. You even catch some rowers, a definitive Vancouver icon. Very beautiful colors, excellent point of view and great sharpness.
I’m very jealous...

Hi Alvin,
Excellent scanned with a great result in the quality of image. The tones magenta and blue they give a good aesthetic effect and many beauty to this image. The setting is very well organized, with the building aside, and the moon as great protagonist of this sunset. His light produces a few wonderful sheens and reflections on the water.
It is a great work, I like it.
Best regards,
Josep

Hi Alvin
This is stunning. The perfect moon and it's reflection are so well placed. The purple light and modern architecture make it seem out of a sci-fi film.

Hi Alvin,
Wow, this is definitely a keeper! I know little about the film you used, but its use resulted in a spectacular image. The colors are incredibly rich with the moon and related reflections capturing center stage. Great work and thanks for sharing. Gerald

It works very good having the Moon on the left and
the other on far right. The convention centre roof
looks like a group of sailboats moored in a marina.
Colours are stunning!

Hi Alvin,
I can get the stunning color in digital, I love the sunset moonrise, what is lacking in my shots is the impeccable sharpness of this photo.
I remember the avante guarde feeling of these sails in the '84 expo. Now everyone has them and they are still lovely but I thing perhaps BC led the way. Of course you could make a case for the Sydney Opera House being the innovaytor in '73.

2 words Alvin.... simply awesome!
It's not very often I contemplate buying 'someone elses' photos- but this is one of the few exceptions... This would look great on my wall.... now if only 'I took it'! Hahaha
Excellend composition with the moon in the frame- and great sharpness. I can only imagine the colors of sunset behind you to be casting such colors on these waters.
Superb work Alvin...

Hi Alvin. When I saw the thumbnail image for this one, I almsot thought it was the airport here in Denver. It is covered in similar white "tent" ceiling meant to resemble the snow-capped mountains just to the west. I wonder if it is made with the same materials. As for the composition, the setting is nice. I light the reflected light off the water.
