Photographer's Note
I couldn't help myself but to upload another Europe Hotel photo.
This is easily my favorite building in Vancouver. To me, it reminds me of what you'd see in Europe. It also reminds me of older classic historic buildings seen on Tv.
The Europe Hotel is located in the historic Gastown region of Vancouver. This Hotel was built in 1908, and is still in use today. It sometimes is featured in Hollywood movies, the most famous being Angelina Jolie's movie, The Changeling, a couple years ago.
The triangular shape is what captivates my senses, and the idea of placing it in the middle of the frame was too much to pass up!
Hope you all like it!
have a great weekend
Craig

Hi Craig,
I'm pretty sure I was getting under your skin with my suggestions on your earlier posts, so I'll keep this one straight
It's a very well thought out shot. You've obviously had this one in mind for some time and picked just the right time to capture it. Waiting for the roads to be wet is truly inspired.
I like the composition, perfect choice to have the main subject smack in the middle of frame.
Love the exposure, the blue hour is executed perfectly. And a star flare on the street light, you gotta love that.
Seeing I'm going straight I'm not going to mention that the building is leaning to the right. :))
Very nice work.
Best wishes
Peter

Hello Craig
Is the street on the left where there is a beautiful standing clock? and did it let steam out at a certain time- or am I wrong all together about that? I certainly remember this building though after my time in Vancouver. I love the blue hour, colours and the main architecture itself, but I think the pp work here is too much in the lower half where the street, trees, lights etc get too blurred and resembles more a colour painting than a photograph - or just noticing it could be because of the long shutter has applied this effect. I would have also cloned the lines which run across the building. I would love to the see the original, and this is where I think a subtle HDR technique could be quite useful especially as it is architecture. You were right IMO about placing it bang in the centre, I like the placement.
Cheers

Hi Craig,
Really nice composition - the almost fluro blue skies coupled with the reflection on the road after the rainfall is inspiring.
Sharpness and exposure is also very good.

Encore une somptueuse heure bleue! L'idée de centrer parfaitement ce bâtiment est très bonne et le rend encore plus imposant. Le sol mouillé t'offre en plus de très beaux reflets.

Hi Craig,
you know? The geometric and architectural similarity with the Flatiron in NYC is really amazing, in spite of the difference of height between both buildings.
The luminosity and the beautiful colors in this capture at the blue hour warn us that it is a very well realized photo, I like its atmosphere and the lights of the city.
A great composition, very elegant and very appealing.
Best regards,
Josep

Hi Craig!
Beautiful and excellent picture!
The pov and the composition are real highlights here, looking straight to this building and placing it right in the middle of the frame were great ideas and the visual results are of great impact!
Exposure and colors are also very good features in this photograph and the result of that are that wonderful blue hour capture: sky and city lights look great!
TFS - congratulations!
Have a very good week-end!

Ciao Craig, I have seen also the others yours photo of this hotel. This is most beuatiful for me. the hotel to the center of photogram is the better solution. its size seems to be left over within the photogram, and the symmetry balance all. I like the humid asphalt for the glares that increase the fascination of the moment of this shot. Good also the choice to leave cables up, you have reason to say that they increase ancient aspect of this angle of the city, dominated low by warm colors and up by blue nearly total. for me a fantastic work. ciao Craig and good week end. Hi Craig
Nicely handled. The blue hour sky combined with the city lights and their reflections make for a superb shot. I have taken this hotel too but never thought of placing it in the middle of the frame. Good choice.

Hi Craig,
This image is presented with perfect symmetry, accentuating that salient aspect. It is evocative of the the famous "Flat Iron Building." I'll do a ws to show you, in the unlikely event that you don't know the building.

Ciao dear Craig,
your photos are often characterized by the blue one, my preferred color, for which it is always a pleasure to admire images as this, perfect in the photographic quality, in the perspective and in the sharpness. A blue hour captured with an excellent result. Compliments!

Hi Craig.
Fantastic capture in the blue hour, very beautiful with these colors and all the points of light, this building reminds me a bit as the Flatiron in New York. but with less height.
I like the POV with the prospect of the two streets, nice colors and perfect light management.
Have a nice weeek.
Best regards.

Hi Craig;
Yes, I'm a sucker for architectural shots too. Again it looks as though you fixed the keystoning here as well (which i appreciate). The only thing I find distracting are those darn powerlines which I might have been tempted to try cloning out. Just be careful with the saturation as the blues here are starting to look a bit overly 'neon'.
Cheers,
- Dan

Hi Craig, this piece of architecture is fascinating, with or without a Blue Hour. But with the Blue Hour, it's phenomenal. I'm not sure if you translate the critiques written to you in other languages, but our friend Francio has called you the King of Blue Hours. He's probably not wrong, although you have some great competition. Great sharpness, tones and exposition (it would have been very easy to blow-out those FG lights). Excellent work, your photos are becoming better and better all the time, Lisa
