Photographer's Note

This little tunnel under a railway line is part of the East Don River nature trail. It was built in 1961, and soon after a rainbow was painted over its entrance by some graffiti artist. The city painted it over with gray paint, like they do with all unauthorized graffiti. But the guerrilla mural artist persevered, and painted it again. The public liked it so much, that when it deteriorated the city repainted it, and now it is an accepted city art, and become quite famous. Peter Doig, a Scottish-born painter made a painting of it in 1999, which was sold in action in London for $15 million.
