Photographer's Note

A day trip to the 1000 islands with hundreds of luxurious mansions build on them. The boundary between Canada and the USA passes through this archipelago.

The Thousand Islands constitute an archipelago of 1,864 islands that straddles the Canada-U.S. border in the Saint Lawrence River as it emerges from the northeast corner of Lake Ontario. They stretch for about 50 miles (80 km) downstream from Kingston, Ontario. The Canadian islands are in the province of Ontario, the U.S. islands in the state of New York.

The 1,864 islands range in size from over 40 square miles (100 km2) to smaller islands occupied by a single residence, or uninhabited outcroppings of rocks that are only home to migratory waterfowl. To count as one of the Thousand Islands these minimum criteria had to be met: 1) Above water level year round; 2) Have an area greater than 1 square foot (0.093 m2); and 3) Support at least one living tree.

Hello Danos,
I would perhaps consider this mansion as slightly better than a hut. ;-) It's a magnificent building whose probably very rich owner has a fantastic garden and a great view of the lake. It's like a privilege just to get a glimpse of it from the water. It's an attractive photo, well balanced and well exposed.

A great view of this grand mansion close to the river and surrounded and partly hidden by a wealth of trees, bushes and flowers in several green tones. Very well spotted and captured.

I know 100 islands, I also was on the trip there. Beautiful area with many nice mansions on small islands, some of them impressive. And there is somewhere the shortest international bridge :). Nice view of this house. But how to live on a small island?

What a beautiful mansion! How I would love to have an island of my own! I have seen photos of islands so small that they can barely have one house on them. I assume they were from this area, too.
