Photographer's Note
As I have said a lot lately, with my son I don't the the opportunity to get out and shoot much anymore.
This was one of those rare times when I got out, all by myself, and with a specific purpose. This is a new condo building in downtown Vancouver, only about 1 year old. Its been on my to-photograph list at blue hour for a while now.
One of the next things I want to do is fly my drone over top of it because there are rooftop pools up there - I think that would be an amazing view of the city and the building.
This building is so unique with its twisting curve, and depending which angle you're looking at it, the twist is even more pronounced...that's why I chose this pov.
I used my tripod here, and just to prove how long its been since I've done this...I had totally forgotten how much I need a new tripod. My camera fell off three times! It won't lock on, and one of the legs is broken. I still managed to get my shot with a bit of creativity and ingenuity. The time lapse is about 8 seconds long, to get the trailing red and white car lights.
I bought a new tripod today online...much needed.

Witaj Craig!
A very interesting building, view is impressive.
Architects have imaginations.
The blue hour and 8 seconds played the main role here.
Good POV, colors and light.
Let the new tripod serve you well.
Warm regards.

Hi Craig, look for your next photos with the new tripod .. haha .. in the meantime this is coming really well despite the misadventures. The building is fantastic, they are completing something similar in Milan in the new "City Life" district, but I cannot go and photograph it due to the restrictions for Covid. Great blue hour and great details too. Have a nice weekend and thanks,Luciano

Hello Craig,
What a cool building! It's kind of like a modern, inverted pyramid, and it looks like it could easily tip over with a strong wind. :-) I like the long exposure and the blue hour sky. About your son, you should just buy him a baby camera, and have him start shooting with you. It could be a nice father/son bonding experience. ;-) Take care!

Hi Craig,
Thi is an unusual structure for a building. The point of view is showing the details of the architecture of the modern building. You had a good idea to use a tripod to get the effect of the car lights. Have a nice day.

Hi Craig
I don't think that I'd like to live in that building but it is spectacular (and OK for other to live in!). A good blue hour photo.

This would be a stunning sight from every different direction, Craig.
Modern design that shhow no limits for imagination of the engineering master-mindd's.
Glad to see you take new photos, keep up.
Wish you a nice weekend,

Hi Craig,
I do not understand why with your son you have not an opportunity for going pout with a camera. What is a problem? You just take him in the baby carrier with you.
I have found that it is the Vancouver House, a neo-futurist residential skyscraper. It was designed by Danish architect Bjarke Ingels. The design is based on a triangle that rises from the ground and gradually transitions into a rectangle as it ascends to the top. I saw some other photos and you have found the most attractive point of view. Blue hour is for me not so important. really awesome picture.
Best regards
Malgo

Hi Craig
Being a parent is almost a full time job in itself. I hope this buildings owners have earthquake insurance! It doesn't look capable of withstanding a major tremor, but then again it depends how it was built. If all the reinforcing is in the lower floors then it should be okay. Good motion blur of the passing traffic. Excellent sharpness and the blue hour adds nice warm cold colour contrasts. Tfs!

Hi Craig,
Wonderful blue hour image of modern architecture. From this angle it looks very top heavy. Obviously there's more mass on the lower levels than what is visible from this angle. Nice to see those lines of lights. Such long exposures are less common here in TE than what they used to be.

Hello Craig, an amazing building, yet one that I don’t think that I would be happy to live in. I am sure that the architects knew what they were doing!
The longer exposure works really well with the lights from the passing traffic, providing foreground interest.
Great POV.
Taken in the blue hour, an excellent idea realised.
Kind regards, Jean.
Jumping the gate, in the picture that you commmented on, not possible, quite a tall gate, and out of frame there is a house that is occupied, so no trespassing!

Hello Craig,
I had a look at several other photos of this house and I agree you probably picked the right angle. It doesn't look quite as extreme from some other sides. From this view I get a feeling that those living on the upper floors would have to be very careful how they place their heavy furniture, or the tower might collapse, like when an airplane is unevenly loaded. I guess the light and surrounding details also mattered to you. You found some nice warm sources of light to contrast the cool evening sky.
Best wishes,
Gert

Hi Craig,
Great view of this weird building that seems to be ready to topple over at the slightest provocation. You chose a good time to photograph it, and the long exposure gets rid of the traffic and replaces it with ghostly streaks of light. Well done.

Hello Mac
The building seems to defy logic. Not sure how it would do in Hurricane force winds here Florida. The added streaks of light from the passing autos really gives it a futuristic feel. Great image.

Hi Craig,
I know exactly how you feel.
The family needs you, the time together is so precious there is always so much to do at home. Many people don't bother but focus on their interest but if you really are emotionally involved you feel responsible. I always felt quite guilty knowing that there is so much to do and instead of spending time with my child I would like to go to take photos. It felt as if I was stealing time from my family. It was so much easier when we were just a couple but with a child and working full time it is so difficult.
I remember one of your photos in the BC times (before child) when you had a photo of another photographer with the child in a carrier. I think that is what you thought you will be doing but the reality is so different. Of course people have different priorities, my friends have three kids and they let them walk on the street and they don't bother. Once their son broke his hand and they noticed after a week. The doctor asked them: how could you not notice? They said the child didn't complain, but the doctor said: yes but the hand has the shape of banana!
Anyway, some people believe this is a healthier attitude. I doubt it personally. I believe spending time with the people you love is the most precious gift you can give them. It does not have to be even a quality time because you may be too exhausted but just time together.
Great use of the blue hour here. The building is amazing! I wouldn't like to live on the top floor though, he he
Nicely star shaped street lights.
Very well done,
M

Hello Craig,
Wow, what a fantastic blue hour shot with an amazing building, which seems to be defying gravity. The sharpness is superb and I really like the warm colours of the road in the foreground also.

Hi Craig
Isto é um desafio arquitetônico que eu acharia dificil equacionar. Eu não me sentiria nada confortável morando naquele último andar haha.

Hello Craig,
You must forgive me for being tardy in responding to your photograph; I have damaged my right upper arm/shoulder and find typing quite difficult. My iPad brings words up and makes it a little easier.
This is an extremely strange building!
It appears like a plume of smoke rising from the earth, increasing in volume as it rises.
It must be very strongly built to withstand this shape.
However, that is not your problem, what you have done is to capture its individual style and shape with amazing clarity, at a beautiful time of day, for us all to share.
Another excellent contribution to TE.
Keep safe,
Bev 😊

Hello Craig,
This is really a very special building, a wonderful asset to Vancouver.
In addition, I think it is very important from which angle you take a photo and I don't doubt that you have chosen the most interesting angle.
Yes, this must be a dream of yours to use your drone here.
I understand that your child brings other priorities into your life. As long as you think about us every now and then.
Best regards, Paul

even in dubai or china they don't have a surprising building like this. WOW! marvelous shapes, remind me the shapes of a natural monument we have here in my state of paraná https://www.flickr.com/photos/diadefoto/5449598762/
nice image, I presume the rarity of the opportunity produced a special one.
take care

Hello Craig,
I saw some photos of your little guy on fb - enjoy these years, they go so fast. This is a really "interesting" building; I am sure it is stable but would I really want to be in a Jenga high rise?

Hi Craig.
Wow ..... This building is the most incredible thing I have ever seen, it seems like a thing of magic how it remains standing, I would never live in an apartment in it, I would not feel safe before any alteration of nature.
You've gotten an extraordinary job at blue hour.
A magnificent range of colors, in very attractive tones.
Good brightness and sharpness management.
Have a great day.
Very best regards.
Luis.
