Photographer's Note

She was a Quebecoise, a kindhearted woman working endless hours, days, likely years, probably in a hidden little cubicle of one of the government offices, typing away, sorting folders, reporting... As she was clutching her hot styrofoam cup filled with black coffee and cream to the brim, as she was closing her eyes still caught in a sleep she would have preferred to last much longer, I kept wondering about all the people alienated from what they need to do to make a living.

She was a kind woman. Without knowing me, for I do not work there, on my placing my camera in front of my eyes, she said, smilingly, "Our photographer", and continued her brief slumber in the elevator, readying herself to attend, I mused, to the piles and piles of folders for the day.
